Poem: [Strangely green beneath the shadows] - generated with the poetry generator

By Jack Brummet

1
Strangely green beneath the shadows
We converse with evil goats below the air

2
We confound fluorescent witches near the virgin
  The fun has died
Dark and glowing beyond the sea
  You pull lustful devils below

And grind blue demons against the sky
Awaken, awaken! The evil was good:
Unsure, silent on the edge of the world
  Down streets where guests
Look for landmarks while the snow falls

3
Mournful signs beside the fog
  The Queen is going,
shifting, restless across the water

  A phone ringing somewhere
Out of whose dream
  The lost man
Asks his way
  Trying to remember

4
Sinning beside the sea
We hobnob with illusions beyond the spirits
Totally red under the gods

I shove angry tomb stones beneath the virgin
The day is born and clouded hesitant,
Saying goodbye with no words left
In how many harbors does a stranger
Look for love and never knowing how

5
Strangely poisonous beyond the water,
I divine illusions above the shadows,
Strange and mournful over the air

We beat murky devils below the slime
You beat brilliant witches about the grave

The life is becoming opaque, fighting back
And crossing the frontier
  The victim loses his way
While the snow falls

6
Darkening awake and blurring at the edges
For whose sake the other
Leaves his home while the crowd watches.

7
We breed invisible idiots beneath the sky
The devil is vanishing, a shadow seeking
Another country with nothing left to lose

Poem: The Cloud Endures (from the Poetry Generator)

By Jack Brummet & The Poetry Generator

1
The cloud endures like a red sun.
Winds calmly rise like a dead captain.

2
Love, adventure, and anger.
Work, anger, and death.

3
Laughter, anger and death.
The dusty skyscraper grabs the truck.

Poem: So blue against the dream

by Jack Brummet, Poetry Editor

Auto-poem created by the "Language Is Virus Poetry Generator":

1
Strangely poisonous before the light
You excrete huge signs before the dreamscape
Word! The pleasure has vanished
All murky beneath the towers
I pull transparent sensations before the fire
Be luminous. The sin felt good
Sinful and glowing about the towers
I breed transparent tomb stones beyond the towers
Beware! The Knight gets weird
wary wanting
crossing the frontier
a backward glance
With what memories
such a man
make his way
when the world was new

2
So blue against the dream
So big beneath the air

3
Evil and dry against the flock
You summon musty feet behind the water
Can you dig it? The evil was hard
Dark and wanting near the spirits
I see dank witches before the air
Yo! The vision has vanished
So blue against the dream
I find luminous teeth above the spirits
Heavy! The Queen has fled
translucent grieving
trying to recall
an old passport
On what journey
the other
miss his chance
in a different light

4
Quite scary on the mist
I squeeze evil wraiths within the trees
Can you dig it? The day will come
Totally huge below the virgin
We examine florescent flames beyond the spirits
Word! The Knave will come again
So big beneath the air
You meet rabid meaning beneath the sea
Ahhh! The life is done
luminous grieving
walking out of the world
a trace of sadness
With what regrets
my father
chase his dream
trying to remember

5
Sinister and grotesque under the land
We condemn florescent fears above the mud
Take cover! The vision has vanished
All quiet under the earth
You battle wanting flames beside the fire
Zounds! The fun is good
I am peaceful against the tomb
We stretch yellow eruptions under the rain
I reach! The day will vanish
wavering fighting back
crossing the frontier
nothing to lose
In whose heart
my likeness
seek shelter
in a different light

6
All heavy behind the fog
You conjure bright women under the gods
Awake! The feeling has vanished
So murky on the vapors
We taste misty feet before the sky
Repent! The Knight is good
Evil and yellow under the slime
We eat florescent snakes near the slime
Way cool! The fun will vanish
opaque curious
turning away
an unreliable map
From which dreams
the sailor
seek shelter
not knowing why

7
All mammoth beside the light
We confound dream-like faces below the fire
Alass! The bastard will go
We are dry under the mud
We summon quaking sensations in the shadows
We Reach! The Queen is vanishing
Sinful and violet against the flock
You swallow electric rats behind the towers
Whoa! The evil gets weird
unafraid hesitant
at a crossroads
something missing
In whose arms
the sailor
chase his dream
before help could come

From Robo-poet: The Throbbing Vortex

Robo-poet is a cut-up style poetry generator (cut-ups are a form "popularized" by William Burroughs and Brion Gysin).

Clearly they structured this poetry generator around lines beginning with an adjective and noun, and ending with a verb paired with an -ly adverb. This might be OK for a couplet, but any longer generated poems end up seeming rote.

This poem would be better if you deleted all the line-ending adverbs (like most writing), and varied the adjective-noun constructions. However, as I dip into all the internet poetry generators, I do want to give you their flavor. Clearly, moving the verbs around in the sentence would also help.

Robo-poet uses a fairly interesting vocabulary, and you could, with some editing, create interesting poems from its output. Robot-poet would work better without such a fomulaic approach to the line.

aggressive street dies thinly
dingy corduroy sucks impersonally
soundless rider sullies unholily

broken dream capitulates bleakly
throbbing dream usurps perfunctorily
perfect rider nags dimly

vestigal life boils grimly
capricious dope crashes irritably
concrete nothing defies awfully

deliberate enticement sucks triumphantly
uniform body smotes awfully
traveled vortex capitulates dazzlingly

foul light concocts sleeplessly
stout enticement looks hysterically
throbbing vortex shrieks completely

undisciplined entry mars completely
baleful enticement envelops dimly
raveled vowel nourishes dryly

Another random poetry generator

I've always been fascinated by poetry generators. I wrote one in the Prolog language in the 1980's and fiddled around with it forever, never able to get it quite right. This one, Rob's Amazing Poetry Generator, looks at a URL (in this case All This Is That) and comes up with a poem. Well, it's not much of a poem, but what I found fascinating was the way it grabbed snatches of this blog from two and three years ago and attempted to incorporate them into the poem. This actually makes me want to attempt to write another one. For what it's worth, here is what Rob's generator came up with:

Do you want to write an alien poem? Four poems by alienbot

I've always loved programmed poetry generators. I once wrote (a rather feeble) one in Borland's TurboProlog. Anyhow, jump here to write your own "alien poem."

jack engulfs the grass
by Alienbot

He kills jack
The sun twitches the Earth
It touches loneliness
The desert bleeds woman suddenly
jack ponders wounds inversely
The chamber door picks up brains gleefully
The desert eats love flawlessly
The forest sees tears
My central processing unit engulfs infinity silken
My computer kills the lips
---o0o---

The spider freezes the grass warmly
by Alienbot

The carbon based unit embraces infinity
johnnie makes the Earth
The forest sees the monkey rapping
The stalk penetrates the monkey gleefully
Sex hates hearts
Everyone numbs woman
---o0o---

The lesbian explodes woman
by Alienbot

The spider kills love
My brain sees love
My heartbeat eats man
The stalk knows reality
The forest feels the pulsating alien brain messily
The outsider kisses as she walks
My computer breaks love
The carbon based unit ponders love
Midnight penetrates infinity gently
jack binds reality suddenly
---o0o---

The desert sees reality
by Alienbot

The grass knows as she walks
It breaks infinity
My computer penetrates baseball
The stalk picks up the lips
Thought destroys the torso silken
My central processing unit loves brains unabashedly
The stalk penetrates as she walks messily
Midnight invalidates jack
My central processing unit breaks the lips gleefully
Alien probe smiles at the raven
The stalk wants man
The stalk binds loneliness
No one is the moon
jack hates funny smells
