The topless photo removed from Chelsea Handler's Instagram Account

By Mona Goldwater, Social Mores Ed.

In a bit of not really controversial news today, Instagram removed a photo of Chelsea Handler (parodying Vladimir Putin on horseback) from her Instagram (http://instagram.com/chelseahandler) page.  This is the photo:

One of my contemporaries scores again

A man wearing only a pair of woman's thong panties n his head has become the first person arrested under Boulder's public nudity law.  Police said 55 year old Glenn Ford was standing naked on an off ramp of Highway 36 during the Thursday rush hour this week.  Cops said Ford was drunk and refused to put on his clothes.

I've seen naked people in public four times (aside from hot springs/hot tubs and locker rooms)--once in the awesome Italian deli in long-gone Woolworth's (!), on Market Street/Powell in San Francisco,  where a woman was shopping, carrying a basket on her arm, stark naked; once, on the Upper West Side in Manhattan near our apartment where a bum (sorry - I'm not sure of the politically correct terms for bum or hobo, derelict, or fuck-up) was strolling naked; once in Seattle at 1 AM when I was driving home from a late night at work and two girls and one boy stepped toward the street and waves--all stark naked; and once in Pioneer Square--another bum, who was pushing a shopping cart, wearing only a pair of flip-flops.

Seattle cover-up: a ban on public nudity?

Seattle's tolerance for nudity may be coming to an end. A proposed rule banning nudity in area parks will have a public hearing in early 2009. The ban would include skinny dippers at beaches on lakes, rivers, and Puget Sound; nude volleyball; participants in the World Naked Bike Rides (three have been held in Seattle this year).

A Nov. 13 parks memo said "Seattle appears to be unique in receiving nudist requests for use of park facilities." The memo mentions that other cities have "some regulation of nudity in public places." As the memo points out, nudity is "per se not illegal" and "Seattle has no law regulating public nudity."

The rule won't affect the notorious naked bicycle riders in the Fremont Fair parade, since that event doesn't happen at a park.

Code Pink bare their breasts again, this time protesting against Hillary & Speaker Pelosi

Code Pink and Breasts Not Bombs whipped them out this week, protesting Senator Clinton and Speaker Pelosi's inaction on ending the war, and on the impeachment issue. “We want to invoke for them the feminine priorities of nurturing, safety, and justice,” explained Sherry Glaser of Breasts Not Bombs. “The American people are tired of the rising body count and spending $1.8 billion a week on the war in Iraq, and they have made clear their priorities are the health and well being of this nation.”

The radical activists staged a surprise mammary protest to publicize their anti-war message on July 23. As The Hillary Clinton for President Campaign celebrated San Francisco headquarters launch party on July 23, 2007, the activists hit. Earlier in the day, they held a similar demonstration outside the offices of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

The protest continued even after the protesters were ejected from

A curious sidebar: one Democratic Senate aide asked: "Why do all the hot naked protesters just do stuff for PETA?"
