Amazing shadow piano

Mickey Hart posted this recently on his Facebook page.  I don't know if he took the photo, or is just sharing it. Interesting nonetheless.  Of course, the cranky comment people pointed out it is not configured like a piano (whiners/spoilsports).

The world's most dangerous lawyer retires

Houston defense lawyer Jerry Guerinot announced his retirement from death-penalty cases this month. He has a perfect record: all 21 of his clients received the death penalty and ten have been executed so far. He pointed out that "gang members, serial killers, and sociopaths" were entitled to representation, too, and that he has also taken more than 500 other criminal cases cases to trial. [Associated Press 8-13-2016]
More baffling to me than the string of losses are why people kept signing up. . .

A sad day for Ann Coulter and her new book "In Trump We Trust"

by Jack Brummet, National Affairs Ed.

Donald Trump kind of peed on Ann Coulter's book release party yesterday. On the day her book "In Trump We Trust" came out, DJT announced a radical shift in his immigration "policy."

In the book, she writes "There’s nothing Trump can do that won’t be forgiven. . .except change his immigration policies.”

drawing 1526 — the final birdhouse

By Jack Brummet

The last birdhouse; the wood is so porous that is hard to get any detail, and the nooks and crannies are near-impossible to work around.  Back to paper, wood, and found objects.  Also, below, #1498, a pencil sketch on the bottom of the birdhouse.

Visiting Port Angeles/Olympic Peninsula and Hurricane Ridge

Photos by Jack Brummet

Four forest fires are currently burning in this area.  They are fighting one fire,
and letting the other three run their course (they hope).

Donald Trump naked in Seattle, NYC, Cleveland, San Francisco, and L.A.

By Jack Brummet, Public Art Ed.

Photo via The Stranger

A statue of a Donald J. Trump has been placed at the corner of 11th Avenue and Pike Street. The plaque reads: "The emperor has no balls."

As it turns out, these statues now appear in San Francisco, Seattle, L.A., and Cleveland. The statues were created and deployed by the art activist group INDECLINE. Where next?

And when will the candidate freak out publicly about this?  Stay tuned. . .

The first "milk carton child," John David Gosch, was never found

Mario Cuomo quotes from the 1984 Democratic Convention

"It's an old story. It's as old as our history. The difference between Democrats and Republicans has always been measured in courage and confidence. The Republicans believe that the wagon train will not make it to the frontier unless some of the old, some of the young, some of the weak are left behind by the side of the trail. The strong, the strong they tell us will inherit the land."

"Maybe, maybe, Mr. President, if you visited some more places; maybe if you went to Appalachia where some people still live in sheds; maybe if you went to Lackawanna where thousands of unemployed steel workers wonder why we subsidized foreign steel. Maybe -- Maybe, Mr. President, if you stopped in at a shelter in Chicago and spoke to the homeless there; maybe, Mr. President, if you asked a woman who had been denied the help she needed to feed her children because you said you needed the money for a tax break for a millionaire or for a missile we couldn't afford to use."

"Maybe -- Maybe, Mr. President. But I'm afraid not. Because the truth is, ladies and gentlemen, that this is how we were warned it would be. President Reagan told us from the very beginning that he believed in a kind of social Darwinism. Survival of the fittest. "Government can't do everything," we were told, so it should settle for taking care of the strong and hope that economic ambition and charity will do the rest. Make the rich richer, and what falls from the table will be enough for the middle class and those who are trying desperately to work their way into the middle class."

The pivot that wasn't

By Jack Brummet, GOP-Tea Party Ed.

As many expected, Donald J. Trump's long awaited "Pivot" was wishful thinking on the part of the GOP-Tea Party.  From an interview yesterday:

Food cubes by Dutch artists Lernert & Sander

Two Dutch artists cut raw/whole foods into 98 2.5 centimeter cubes (just shy of one inch square). It's pretty fun to see how many things you can identify (I found thirty things I knew for sure and over twenty I was pretty sure about). it's a pretty cool art concept. Check out their website here
