Poem: In California, I write down the names of every great tree name I can remember

Cedar, cypress, juniper mulberry, buckeye,
Gingko, hickory, ironwood, magnolia, persimmon,

Paw paw, pussy willow, sassafrass,
Sumac, tupelo, witchhazel, oak,

Alder, crabapple, devilwood, dogwood.
And they call me John.

Who do trees and meeting rooms
Get all the good names?
