Jack, they may scorch the earth but the Obama team may be too much for them. Begala, Davis, Carville, McAullife, Wolfson, Caputo, et al are headed to the glue factory, I think, despite their threats to go the distance. She is probably $35 million plus in debt. Look for Obama to steal her WV hillbilly hubcap clap tonight with a big endorsement and he just may have rolled up Webb for VP. Now that cat's scary. McInsane would shite his fancy brew heiress pants in a staredown with the good VA senator.
Whatever she's in debt, she still has that $20 million general election fund she can't touch.
Do you think Obama may need the dough so bad he brings her on as Veep?
Sure, it's probably Ted Stricklund or Sebelius (she's the smart move I think, even though she's from Kansas). On the other hand, Michelle Obama would have a cow about a Hillary VPhood. And you have to think there's plenty of rancor between the two Senators about now. But that has never affected who becomes VP & why should it now?
Obama need the dough? I don't think so. He's probably sitting on $40 million now and once this thing is settled he could reasonably expect to raise $50 million per month through November 4th. That's assuming his donor base of 1.5 million doesn't grow and the average monthly contribution is only $35 bucks a month or $175 through the election. It's not hard to believe he could raise upwards of $75 million or more per month once the party unites.
If the party unites. Remember, in some ways, this is the most fractious caucus/primary season since 1972--and like '72, we may go to the convention with no winner in the sense of having hit the magic number.
And then, we must also consider what part of Obama's base will drop out or sink into lethargy once he makes a few of those inelectable compromises he will of necessity make. He may not, as I've predicted, offer Joe Lieberman the VP-ship, but he will surely make some of those.
Because she will feel fresher in 2012?
