Poem: Stages

By Jack Brummet

I am no longer
Anyone's grandchild, nephew or great nephew.
I've never been a great grandson.

I am still a son,
Still a brother and uncle,
Son-in-law, and brother-in-law,

First, second, and third cousin,
Daddy, and husband.
I am still to be a grand- and great-grandfather,

Or father-in-law,
But always have been,
And always will be, God's boy.
