125,000 Killed In Buffalo Nuclear Attack?

In 1956, the editors and Civil Defense authorities cooked up a special edition of the Buffalo evening paper to graphically demonstrate the impact of a direct hit on this upstate New York city.

"The News is to be commended for this further expression of leadership in publishing a special edition in conjunction of with 'Operation Alert,'" said Maj. Edwin G. Zeigler, director of the Erie County Civil Defense program.
