"You talk about the surge. The war started in 2003, and at the time when the war started, you said it was going to be quick and easy. You said we knew where the weapons of mass destruction were. You were wrong. You said that we were going to be greeted as liberators. You were wrong. You said that there was no history of violence between Shia and Sunni. And you were wrong. " Barack Obama to John McCain, September 26, 2008
"We've spent over $600 billion so far, soon to be $1 trillion. We have lost over 4,000 lives. We have seen 30,000 wounded, and most importantly, from a strategic national security perspective, al-Qaeda is resurgent, stronger now than at any time since 2001. We took our eye off the ball. Jack, loved the debate post mortem. I too thought it was basically a tie though since Obama made no gaffes and was charming, yet forceful he probably won on style points.
Anyway, what I would love to see is a 30-45 second mashup of McCain's stumbling over Ahmadinejead intercut with that weird tongue flicking tic of his. It reveals his inner snake. Maybe the ALL THIS IS THAT tech staff can put one together.
The liberal commentators picked up on the tongue flicking and his strange hunched-over presentation. I may try to do the video you suggest.
Obama was charming, but not nearly as charming as he can be. I suspect we'll see another Obama in the next debate.
More charming or more aggressive?
A lot of commentators, of all stripes, say he didn't "bring enough", but I wonder if that boxing lingo analysis isn't a little overplayed. Oh, don't get me wrong, I wanted to see a pummeling, hey, I wanted a literal beat down of McFraud, but polls are indicating pretty consistently that indies and undecideds say O won the night. In any case, I agree we will see more from Obama in the next two. He will have some fresh material and McNuffin may have shot his wad.
And if Thursday exposes Palin any thing like Couric did, I don't know how the McGrump/Falin campaign survives.
Here's hoping.
