A load of ca-ca in Germany

BERLIN (Associated Press story):

"One can only imagine the expletives uttered by a Bavarian driver and his teenage daughter after a farmer accidentally filled their convertible with a trailer full of manure. German police say the incident happened Saturday near the town of Altomuenster, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) northwest of Munich.
"The 52-year-old father and his 14-year-old daughter were parked by the roadside when a tractor pulling a trailer of liquid manure swung in their direction. The maneuver sent the entire load pouring into their Renault convertible, covering the occupants from head to toe with slurry.

"In a statement Monday, police said the car is likely a write-off. On the upside, they noted: "nobody was injured."

71 year old German woman put in cooler for priest stalking

By Mona Goldwater, Social Mores Ed.

the stalker in court

An 71 year old woman was jailed for 14 months this week for stalking a Catholic priest for over a decade. She stripped naked and danced in front of him on more than one occasion, the court heard, and had harassed him since 2000 with letters, emails, and phone calls, telling him she loved him. On Thursday, she confessed through her lawyer.  The confession left the court with the decision on whether she should go to prison or to the laughing academy.
The woman often left flowers, love notes and condoms in the priest's front garden in Sauerland, North-Rhine Westphalia, according to the Essen, Germany newspaper Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung.  She told the court that when she first met him, "It hit me like a bolt of lightning. I didn't know that he was the priest."
After testimony, in the Meschede,  court, she was sentenced to one year and two months in prison.

Oliver Voss's "Die Badende" a/k/a Hamburg water woman statue

By Jack Brummet, Visual Arts Editor

This (13 foot high and 98 foot long) statue of a woman is, or was, installed in Hamburg, Germany. Die Badende was created by the artist Oliver Voss.  I can't determine whether it is still there, or if the installation was just a temporary exhibition.  Pretty cool, in either case.  I like this.
