Mel Brooks' block at Grauman's Chinese Theater

On the 40th anniversary of Young Frankenstein (in 2014), Grauman’s Chinese Theater asked Mel Brooks to add his hands and feet to their court on Hollywood Boulevard. Brooks added a prosthetic finger to one hand. After the ceremony, he said
"Somebody's going to come in from Des Moines, Iowa, and say, 'Mother, mother come see what -- is it Mel Brooks' left hand? Does he have six fingers?'  'Yes, father, he's got six fingers.' "

Poem: Endurance

By Jack Brummet

We like to believe
We could endure anything for five minutes

But that theory, cooked up
In your hermetic study or bedroom,

Comes apart at the seams
When you imagine being on fire

Or having crows feast
   Upon your eyes.

My favorite work at last night's Pioneer Square Art Walk.

By Jack Brummet, Seattle Arts Ed

My favorite work tonight were these blocks, painted with faces on all four sides. You might not want the kids to play with them; price tag=$2,400, or, $100 a block/$25 a face,
