William S. Burroughs vs. George Edgerly Harris III on how to handle the police

By Jack Brummet, Protest and Civil Disobedience Ed.

Point

Photographing an anti-war protest on October 21, 1967, Bernie Boston captured this famous image. As the National Guard closed in on a group of protesters, George Edgerly Harris III (later known as gay activist and theater leader Hibiscus) walked up and and started placing carnations in their gun barrels.

Counterpoint

William Burroughs, on seeing the photograph above, said "The people in power will not disappear voluntarily, giving flowers to the cops just isn't going to work. This thinking is fostered by the establishment; they like nothing better than love and nonviolence. The only way I like to see cops given flowers is in a flower pot from a high window."

no no no no - President Obama's 15th public statement on mass killings

By Jack Brummet

This was probably BHO's best post mass-murder statement yet.  It hurts to say that.  It's pretty long, but worth watching. I've seen so so many he's made. It's a quirky speech, layered in stunned sadness, with odd cadences and full of hesitations, and grappling pauses.

We have to fix the sickness and get the guns out of the hands of the 1% who are doing us wrong.  Over and over and over.  Don't flame me...this isn't about politics; it's about our soul and our safety.

Video: a cuteness overload

By Jack Brummet

I admit.  I watched it until the end. 1) cuteness overload, and 2) I love the way the music panning. I assumed it was a synced mix, but maybe (probably?) not; it might all be done programmatically, music synced with the character/ instrument as they move in and out of camera range, swelling to full volume when the character is dead center.  Check it out here
