Ballard Cedar mill, Seattle, 1919

The Seattle Cedar mill, just west of the Ballard Bridge, was the largest sawmill in Ballard. Logs were cut into lumber and then dried for nine months before being sold. The stacks of drying lumber were at least 50 feet high.

The Lord's bus shows up at Seattle's Golden Gardens

I met these sweet folks at Golden Gardens on Shilshole Bay yesterday.  They were very nice, and did not proselytize in any way.  I think they were letting the bus do the talking.  They did have a donation box for taking photos.  I slipped them a few bucks to shoot some photos, not for their message but their moxie and medium and warm hearts.

Farewell to Ballard's The Viking

A painter--Ethan Jack Harrington--captured The Viking Tavern, which is just down the road from my house. They are closing to make way for "Ballard Lofts," another midrise. Also coming down is 2 1/2 Happy Barbers, and the garage next door (which was designed by Fred Anhalt - who also designed a lot of the interesting apartment buildings on Capitol Hill).  I'm Going to miss the Vike.

Beautiful, a sweet video from some Ballard youth

wow. Wow. WOW.  Althea and Augie, my niece and nephew appear in this oh so sweet  video (age 11)  created by their friends in the 'hood.  I *think* some of the kids (and probably the actual creators) hailed from a family that runs a dance school on 15th NW..  In any case, everyone who worked on this video was very young--there appears to be no old codger interference.  They did an amazing job.

Who are the Reptilians?

If you haven't heard of them before,Reptilians are an alien race that has been interacting with the human race for some time.  Their intentions are still not clear, but most people feel that they are intent on managing and controlling mankind.

Reptilians in their natural form look roughly human like, but with fine scaled lizard like skin.  The hook though is that Reptilians have the ability to shape shift and commonly pose as humans.  In fact, there is substantial evidence that Reptilians have been the heads of state for thousands of years.

Why Would Reptilians Want to Be Under Gasworks Park?

There are a lot of well known places that are suspected Reptilian bases, but I think Gasworks park is at the very least a minor base, simply due to its location. Think about it. The old structures give plenty of cover for any ventilation that needs to be done, and Lake Union would give plenty of cover to a UFO or USO that needed to enter/leave.

Tunnels under Lake Union could easily provide access to downtown Seattle and the old city underground structures. Additionally Seattle is central to several military bases and has an International airport for when Reptilians are traveling in human form by common means.

Seattle is also one of the few major cities along the West Coast. Other possible Reptilian outposts can be expected in all the major coastal cities such as Vancouver, Los Angeles, Long Beach and so on.  I haven't heard of reports from Mexico and South America, but I would be surprised if they did not have based along the coast all along to the bottom of South America.

A Ballard Shaggy Dog Story

As you may or may not know, the now trendy hipster neighborhood of Ballard in Seattle was, and to some extent still is, a Norwegian-Swedish-Danish stronghold.  Stan Boreson and others have often told "Scandahoovian" stories and jokes.  This is one:

Ole is the Pastor of the local Norwegian Lutheran Church and Pastor Sven is the minister of the Swedish Covenant Church across the road.

One day they are seen pounding a sign into the ground, which said:

     DA END ISS NEAR!
   TURN YERSELF AROUNT NOW
   BAFOR IT ISS TOO LATE!

As a car speeds past them, the driver leans out his window and yells, “Leave people alone, you Skandihoovian religious nuts!”

From the curve they heard screeching tires and a big splash. Shakin’ his head, Rev. Ole says “Dat’s da terd one dis mornin’.”

“Yaa,” Pastor Sven agrees, then asks, “Do ya tink maybe da sign should yust say, ‘Bridge Out?’”

As stars coruscate through a nebulous fog.
I tilt my head to see The Big Dipper,

Polaris, Ursa Minor, Cassiopeia, and Andromeda.
The streetlight's falling shadow

Marks a twilight world I take for granted.
The bats' sonar

And the muffled bark of sea lions
Are the songs I hear

When I go outside to see the stars
Twinkling in the briny air.

The Dutch Bike, Coffee & Bar's seven-person "conference bike"

This is definitely the coolest thing I've seen (so far) today.  The Dutch Bike, Coffee & Bar, on lower Ballard Avenue (near The Walrus & The Carpenter and Walton's Fancy & Staple) is a fairly new bike, coffee, cafe, and wine joint in the old Marine Hardware shop.  They've done a fantastic job of renovating the place into a high-ceilinged, brick, loft-like space.  They installed an amazing take on steel gates--a window/door that opens up the space via a mechanical pulley system (with some of the gears, etc. coming from an old Model T).  It's a wonderful space--while I was there, quite a few people just stopped by just to take pictures. 

What knocked me out most was the seven-person "bicycle" that they call a conference bike.  Everyone is seated in a circle, and everyone pedals to power the bike.  One person is the navigator.  I would love to see it in action.  You can rent it by the hour ($75).  They also sell great looking city bicycles.  And coffee.  And tasty sounding sandwiches.  And beer and wine.

Alien Lore No. 191 - Four UFO sightings in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood

On 7/30/1999 in Ballard,  an object was seen "near the Orion's belt and traveled in a southwesterly direction turning bright green and then faded out."  The story "Two See Erratic Moving Light in Morning Sky" was reported on UFOSNW.COM:

"I was standing on my deck and looking from the Ballard area (Seattle) near the Ballard Bridge looking over the top of Queen Ann Hill. It was just at dawn this morning 7/21/08 around 5:00AM. I saw a dot of light that moved with extreme speed from my vantage point coming from the Southwest. The light stopped on a dime from a high speed to a complete stop.

"I would have no way of determining how far it was, but it was very faint and appeared to be over the SeaTac airport area as I could see the lights of aircraft in a normal fashion landing or taking off almost as faint, but this was not an aircraft due to the extreme speed and movement patterns.

"The dot of light as it moved, continued to move at a very high rate of speed right to left at two or three points moving up and back to what appeared to be exactly where it originally arrived from the original approach. I noticed that it moved West to East, South of my position. It continued to dart rapidly in what appeared to be a fixed trajectory moving extremely fast between two reference points that I used which were tree tops in the Queen Ann area (a hill approximately at it's top elevation of around 500 feet).

"Again the object was certainly off at least 10 miles south of those reference points. I called my friend to observe it when I first noticed it and they had never seen a UFO before. The friend concurred that in their mind, it was not a plane, jet, helicopter, group of aircraft such as military jets, shooting star, meteor or any other object because of the fast darting between the points.

"The object over approximately 5 minutes would also vanish as if the lights went off and then either reappear at the same place or another place and it darted back to a similar position horizontal, and the 2 or 3 times it elevated it was almost as if it move the same distance upward from it horizontal point position as if to coordinate the distance once in place from the original west to east position.

"At the time I saw it move into it's position and would travel what appeared the same space left to right or (East to West) and up back down to the original line of entry left to right. About 5 minutes after it appeared it then moved quickly away at an upwardly 30 to 45 degree fashion towards the west from where it originally appeared. It then shot off into the upper levels of space at a very high rate of speed. I would suggest that each movement was not longer than 1/2 to 1/4 of a second for each movement to a complete stop."

MUFON reports that on July 4th, 1947, a "gentleman, who currently serves as a Research Archaeologist for the MUTUAL UFO NETWORK, describes a sighting of a strange disc he experienced in the Ballard area of Seattle. He is a professional artist, and has volunteered to submit an illustration of what the object looked like.  We will be posting more information, and several illustrations to the NUFORC homepage during the next several days."  No additional information is available.

A great aerial shot of Ballard/North Beach (Seattle)

This is a nice aerial shot of Ballard (my neighborhood) in Seattle.  The waterway you see at the bottom is the Ship Canal that leads up to the Government Locks.  Near the top, the bulge in the land is Golden Gardens.  North and west of Golden Gardens is the North Beach neighborhood.
