God's only full recipe

By Jack Brummet, Food Ed.

The Bible contains only one full recipe, which is given to Ezekiel by God:

Ezekiel 4:9 "Take you also to you wheat, and barley, and beans, and lentils, and millet, and fitches, and put them in one vessel, and make you bread thereof…"

Ezekiel 4:12 "And you shall eat it as barley cakes, and you shall bake it with dung that comes out of man."

The Ezekiel bread package does not specify what fuel was used to cook the bread.

Beard permits in the Norwegian Navy

By Jack Brummet

Facial Adornment Ed.

Sailors in Norway's Navy must submit a form requesting permission in order to grow a beard. The form requests information on the proposed beard and requires a drawing of what their beard will look like.

A Redditor, "aellgutta," recently shared a copy of his form and his translation:

"On the top it says "BEARD APPLICATION", then it's rank/ military ID-number, full name and platoon/ division. Then it says "Reason:" to which I wrote "I get irritated skin from daily shaving and it's starting to get cold outside." Under the sketch I drew, it says "DRAW HERE!" and at the bottom the Lieutenant has written that he will inspect it after the next exercise (which gave me about 2,5 weeks) followed by a stamp to show my application was accepted."

Cruising home to Seattle in style

By Jack Brummet

A shot of me cruising home from Kent in my brother Guy's sweet 1999 M3 convertible on a beautiful 80 degree day, with Milo Petersen and the Jazz Disciples on cassette. What a great album--great songs by Milo and great players (I think Jay Thomas on trumpet, Milo on drums (he also a great guitar player), Phil Sparks on bass, Marc Seals on piano, and Rick Mandyck on tenor saxophone

Of course I especially love the song "The Good," a beautiful tune Milo wrote for our wedding. "The Good was completed for a childhood friend's wedding and was inspired by the spiritual writings of the Katha Upanishad."

John Brummet 2nd carving

By Jack Brummet

This is a flag holder my dad (John Brummet 2nd, 1923-64) carved and painted for my Cub Scout den in the early 60's). Just recovered it in the continuing clean out of my mom's house. I guess he was an early influence....
