Notes from yesterday on The Administration's myriad troubles

by Jack Brummet, Scandal Ed.

1) It will be a real mind effer if the Attorney General invokes the 5th Amendment today.

2) Almost more likely, he un-recuses himself, fires Mueller and maybe Rosenstein two hours before the hearing.

3) Less likely:
the Veep, the generals, Tillerson, etc., run a 25th amendment coup d'etat.

4) I know everyone thinks the public accolade part of the first full cabinet meeting had chimes of 3rd world/totalitarian politics. This is overthinking it; the cabinet merely provided, in exchange for their honor, what is known in the dating world as a courtesy fuck.

How to battle The President's short attention span

by Jack Brummet

Too verisimilitudinous to be fake: National Security Council officials strategically include Trump’s name in “as many paragraphs as we can because he keeps reading if he’s mentioned,” according to one source. [reported in Slate, New York Magazine, and Reuters]

President Trump, the leaker

by Jack Brummet

"Trump revealed information to the Russian visitors that “jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State,” the Post reported Monday, citing current and former U.S. officials with ties to the administration. The publication did not elaborate on what the president’s disclosure entailed, due to its sensitive nature, but said the information came from a U.S. ally." - Huffington Post 5/15/17

AG Jeff Sessions recuses himself from Russian-Trump investigations

By Mona Goldwater, Justice Dept. Ed.

In this instance, recusal is a half-measure. You know what they say about half measures. The President gave the AG a half-vote of confidence yesterday.  When asked if  he believed Attorney General Sessions had told the truth at his confirmation hearings, The President said “he probably did.”

Speech to congress: A New Don/Dawn?

by Jack Brummet

Last night, for one of the first times, The President didn't sound completely off his rocker (except a couple moments). He stuck to the speech on the TelePrompTer, which seemed to have far less Steve Bannon in it. He threw out a lot of red meat on infrastructure, America first, and the usual themes and schemes.

Situational Ethics: Trump family/staffers registered to vote in two states

As Donald Trump told ABC’s David Muir Wednesday a couple of days ago,
“You have people that are registered who are dead, who are illegals, who are in two states. You have people registered in two states. They’re registered in a New York and a New Jersey. They vote twice. There are millions of votes, in my opinion."
The Washington Post has identified four Trump family members or top administration appointees who were registered in two states during last fall’s election, including Chief White House Strategist Stephen K. Bannon, Tiffany Trump, the president’s youngest daughter, Treasury Secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin, and son-in-law (and top adviser), Jared Kushner.
