Sara Palin slurs out a speech to the Western Conservative Summit

By Jack Brummet

I don't know how widely this has been passed around, but this speech is pretty stunning. It almost seems like she's riding a poly-drug cocktail, maybe a couple of Xanax, a few martinis, and God knows what else.  Early on, she makes a joke about "inhaling" in Colorado. And it just came out yesterday that she and some family members were at and involved in a drunken brawl in Wasilla, where Todd got a broken nose and some other family members engaged in fisticuffs.

Sarah Palin appears starting at 3:40. . .

Donald Trump, the man without a party (Run, Donald, Run!) re-reconsiders, and a suggestion for running mate

By Pablo Fanque, National Affairs Editor
illustrations by Jack Brummet

First, The Donald tantalized us earlier this year, and his polling numbers went--briefly--through the roof.  Then he dropped out, but left the door open just a crack.  Over the last few months, many of the Republican Presidential wannabes have made the trek to his office (for what--money?  his blessing?).  The Washington Post had a great piece on their blog in early December titled "2012 Republican are kissing Donald Trump's ring.  But why?"

It seems that Donald Trump, like most of the rest of the American electorate, has found Republican Clown War sorely lacking in substance, in a viable candidate, a rational platform--lacking in just about everything.  Now, Trump has switched his political affiliation to "Independent," and is possibly considering running again.  At least that is what some staffers and a spokesperson say.  No word on how this would affect his reality show, which could be subject to equal time provisions from other candidates if he did decide to run.

From today's Christian Science Monitor:
Given his not-too-shabby polling numbers, deep pockets, and new-found status as a registered independent, business mogul Donald Trump is in a decent position to launch a third-party run for president of the United States.
The snark on the street is that Mr. Trump, a temperamental fellow who has toggled his party affiliation before, dumped the Republican Party on Thursday in anger after only two in the large field of GOP presidential candidates agreed to attend a debate he was slated to moderate. Some Republican hopefuls had questioned whether it was ethical for Trump to host a debate while considering a potential presidential run himself.

A Trump spokesman, however, said his boss dropped out of the debate and changed his party affiliation "to preserve his right to run for president as an independent."

If you do run, Mr. Trump, may we suggest that you sign up your old friend, the Ex-Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, as your running mate?  With a double whammy like that, what could possibly go wrong?

ATIT reheated: A salute to two political MILFs: Governor Sara Palin and Ex-Prime Minister of the Ukraine, Yulia Tymoshenko.

By Pablo Fanque, National Affairs Editor

[reheated from ATIT in April, 2007]

Remember way back, when Sarah Palin was just a cute Governor?  She was plucked from relative obscurity by Senator John McCain and became his VP candidate in 2008, soon became a pariah, lost the election, went back to Alaska, later quit her job as Governor, wrote a best-selling book that made her rich, starred in a reality show, began endorsing and campaigning for other people, and then faded into obscurity during Rep. Michele Bachmann's brief flash in the plan.  She has been quiet for a while now.  I expect we'll hear from her soon--she doesn't seem to like being out of the limelight for too long.  The limelight, however is becoming elusive

Yulia Tymoshenko, now 50, was sentenced to seven years in jail last month after being found guilty of abusing her office as prime minister. Critics branded the case a showtrial.  She is reportedly now in such poor health that she can barely get out of bed in prison. . .

Sarah Palin: Quote of the Day

By Mona Goldwater, Tea Party Editor

Quote of the day:

"I knew that we'd be buddies when I met her when she said, 'Drill here, drill now.' And then I replied, 'Drill, baby, drill' and then we both said, 'You betcha!'"

- Sarah Palin, quoted by theWall Street Journal, recalling a previous meeting with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).

Michele Bachmann politicks and tries out a corn-dog at the Iowa State Fair and Sarah Palin can't resist a photo op

By Jack Brummet, Flyover States Editor & Pablo Fanque, National Affairs Editor

Congresswoman and declared candidate Michele Bachmann has been hanging out in Iowa.  The Queen of Rage, as Newsweek described her in the notorious "crazy eyes" cover article, was in state for the big Straw Poll, and the big GOP/Tea Party Debate last night, at which you could probably say she didn't take on a lot of water, but didn't really make any headway.  However, the rumor-mill says that Pawlenty is considering dropping out, and a disastrous showing in the notorious straw poll may just push him over the edge.

Rep. Bachmann samples a local corn dog at the Iowa
State Fair. On Twitter Mike_FTW  wrote, "Ladies.
Gentlemen. Start your Photoshop engines. "

Ex-Governor Sarah Palin made a high-profile appearance. Of course she did.  It was a high profile GOP/Tea Party week.  And she has been out of the news cycles for two or three weeks.  She told reporters on at the fair on Friday that she had watched the debate on Thursday night and saw nothing that made her think that the Republican field was closed to late entrants.  We agree with her on that point, anyhow.  There's room, because there is maybe one marginally viable candidate.

We say butt out, Democrats.  Quit rending your garments over Bachmann, Perry, Gingrich and the others.  Let them nominate their Goldwater, say a Rick Perry or Michele Bachmann.  In our own house, we need to decide who our own candidate will be.  At his break-neck fund-raising pace, it seems highly unlikely that BHO will pull an LBJ. But you just never know.

USA Today's web site reports "Sarah Plain caused a media and fan frenzy as they swarmed her from the minute she and her entourage stepped onto the fairgrounds."  She may be coy about whether she will run or not, but she can't resist a media opportunity.

"There is still plenty of room," said Sarah Palin, as she was mobbed by the press. “There is still plenty of room for a common sense conservative,” she said,  once again stirring up speculation that she might after all enter the 2012 fray.

In next week's Newsweek, Ex-Governor Palin explains just how she can win The White House

By Pablo Fanque
National Affairs Editor

Next week's Newsweek has a photograph of Sarah Palin in workout gear on its cover, with her declaring:
I Can Win
_______________________

Sarah Palin on why she's so confident--and how she'll decide whether to run in 2012.

It will be fascinating to see the logic behind this statement.  So far she seems to be running roughly even-steven with Newt Gingrish and Michele Bachmann, or, a virtual exile on main street.

Happy Flag Day!

By Mona Goldwater
Tea Party-GOP Analyst

From a Flag Day 2010 Wonkette.com post Here is how to display the flag with dignity:

Follow the Real American directions.

1. Get an Army flag, too, from Big Lots or whatever. Israel flags are fine, too.
2. Throw the flag over the bar stool — the one covered in baby vomit and cheeto dust — and just lean on the American Flag, like a slob.
3. Wear pantyhose while jogging, for some reason.
4. If the flag touches the carpet, ticks could get on it. That’s not allowed according to the Constitution.

Sarah Palin and Donald Trump Love Fest At Pizza Joint/Trump doesn't close the door on running himself

By Pablo Fanque
National Affairs Editor

Gawkers snap photos outside the now legendary political summit
between two strategic masterminds

Ex-Governor Palin and Apprentice-master Trump met for lunch yesterday at a midtown pizza chain.  The New York Daily News probably had the best quote on the tĂŞte Ă  tĂŞte  These two have to be making the Republicans crazy.  All we can say is: Keep it up Donald and Sarah!

"We do like each other and I will tell you more than anything else, she loves this country," Trump told Fox News.

He also told them, apropos running for President, "If I'm not happy with what I see, I could very easily change my mind. ... I'm not happy with what I see," Trump said. "In 11 months, I'm totally free to do whatever I want to do."

ABC News quoted Trump on the Ex-Governor, "I’ll tell you she's a great woman, a terrific woman, and a great friend," and finally, he said, "I'd love her to run."

Palin praised Trump's "independence" and "willingness to speak his mind."  She told reporters the two are "on the same page" when it comes to GOP candidates and issues.

Polls show Charlie Sheen beating Sarah Palin and Barack Obama

By Pablo Fanque
National Affairs Editor
Illustrations by Jack Brummet, Photo (c) charliesheen.com

A new poll  by PublicPolicyPolling.blogspot.com shows that in a head to head run for President, independent voters would favor Charlie Sheen over Ex-Governor Sarah Palin for President by a 41/36 margin.  Democrats would support him 44-24 and Republican/Tea Party voters prefer Sheen over President BHO by a 37-28.  But then, they would probably also prefer Idi Amin or Field Marshall Goering over BHO too....

And it's more than just fruitcake independents supporting the warlock. Democrats would support him by a 44-24 margin for president over Palin and Republicans would support him 37-28 over Obama.

Michele Bachmann for President! (for people who find Palin too cerebral)

By Pablo Fanque,
National Affairs Editor

Hold onto your mukluks Ex-Governor Palin -- your old Mama Grizzly buddy-roo and fellow Tea-Partier Michele Bachmann has set her sights on an Oval Office run in 2012.  Or will you two tea-partiers team up or tag-team until one of you runs out of gas?

I have been trying to find out if Bachmann's announcement has caused any schism between her and Palin, or between their factions within the Tea Party itself.   So far, nothing has turned up.

Bachmann, the three-term congresswoman from Minnesota, is well-known for her doctrinaire conservatism, and her bizarre views like: "homosexuality is a dysfunction," or that President BHO is "turning America into a nation of slaves."  Rep. Bachmann makes liberals perhaps even crazier than her pal, the Ex-Governor.

Which will it be?  Or will they go head-to-head?

Bachmann, the chairwoman of the House Tea Party Caucus, is traveling to Iowa this month "to seek advice from political forces there and party elders close to the caucus process before coming to a final decision" on whether or not to make a run for the big seat.

Conservatives like Shannon Bell of Right Pundits think Bachmann would, at the very least, make for a spirited contest:  "She's unbelievable when it comes to raising money. She has impeccable conservative credentials. Liberals hate her guts. The Tea Party adores her, and she's not afraid to take on the establishment."

The often hilarious Andy Borowitz tweeted when this first came out: "Michele Bachmann would be an awesome presidential candidate for people who find Sarah Palin too brainy."

Sarah Palin running in 2011, or "replenishing the coffers?"

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

When the calendar turns to 2011 in a couple of weeks, we will nearly officially be in the midst of Campaign 2012.  We may, or may not, discover Ex-Governor Sarah Palin's real intentions.  Is she running?  Is she just appearing to run to jack up the sales of her second book, drive viewers to her Discovery Channel reality show, increase her fees for personal appearances, and boost her ratings on the Fox News Channel?  Or is she really in it to win it, fully intending to sweep through the primaries and caucuses, win the Presidential nomination at the 2012 convention in Tampa, and make "One and Done," a reality by taking out a sitting President?

The stream of polymedia appearances, and never-ending barrage of commentaries, policy statements, and endorsements issuing from SarahPac, Facebook, and Twitter show that she wants to remain in the spotlight center-stage. . .whether for political or pecuniary reasons.  We will learn her true intentions sometime in the coming year, for better or for worse.

Ex-Governor Palin believes she can take down President Barack Obama in 2012

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

We probably need to take this all with a few grains of salt, since we do know Palin's new book has just been released, and she is on the talk-show circuit, hoping to score one more multi-million payday before it all goes up in smoke.  Sarah Palin just claimed to Barbara Walters that she believes she could whip BHO's ass in 2012.

"I'm looking at the lay of the land now, and ... trying to figure that out, if it's a good thing for the country, for the discourse, for my family, if it's a good thing," Palin said in an interview scheduled to air in full Dec. 9 on ABC as part of Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People" of 2010.

Barbara Walters asked: "If you ran for president, could you beat Barack Obama?"

"I believe so," Palin said.

Ex-Governor Palin: "This Is Our Morning In America...and it may take some renegades going rogue to get us there!"

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

From Sarah Palin's Facebook page:  "Congratulations, America! And thank you, voters!"

The ex-Governor sends her thanks to The Voters.  If the leaks are kosher, and what I've been hearing is true, the process of the GOP distancing themselves from her begins.  Right. Now.

They Republicans, besides repealing the health care bill, axing spending (aside from the military), and lowering taxes, now have 2012 to focus on.  The race for POTUS really does begin this January.  Now, the big question is whether or not Sarah's fervent supporters can be so easily shunted aside. . .I'm hoping not.  Keep them in the mix, GOP!

Ms. Palin, in her Facebook post, also included a link to this inspirational YouTube video her staff put together:

President Obama's illegitimate Presidency

By Pablo Fanque
National Affairs Editor
Research by Jack Brummet

What will it take to convince the teabaggers, conspiracy theorists, and wingnuts that President Barack Obama (they usually prefer to include his middle name) is in fact a legitimate President, who is neither a Muslim, nor was born in Kenya?  Facts haven't worked, his relatively centrist Presidency has convinced no one, and his very public declarations of Christianity seem to convinced no one on the far right.  He even stands shoulder to shoulder with them on gay marriage!  And yet, a small, but highly vocal contingent of nutjobs consider him to be not an American by birth, but also a Muslim who lied his way into the Oval Office--a Trojan Horse of Islam.

Recently, BHO called off a visit to the Golden Temple in Punjab, India, due to “logistical problems.”  There were, at the time, numerous reports (which the White House vigorously denied,) that in fact, The Prez didn't want to wear the white robe traditionally worn in the temple. Before the mid-term elections, he wanted to avoid another photo that might be used as "proof" that he is Muslim by his political enemies.

While no one in their right mind takes these claims seriously, it is a sad state of affairs that the wingnuts and teabaggers can have that degree of influence on the President.  Unfortunately, unless conventional wisdom is seriously wrong, it looks like those very groups will at the least have some wind under their sails after the elections next month.

With a little power, maybe the tea party will begin to focus less on the wedge issues, and more on the substantial political and social ones.  It's hard to tell with these folks.  Honestly, probably the best thing for the Democratic Party would be if the tea party and its sympathizers focused on the Presidential campaigns of Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and whatever other deranged dingbats emerge from the closet over the next year or so.  While the Tea Party seems able to stir up pockets of support in localized areas, up to and including entire states, on a larger canvass, their message and their anger will be accorded the scant respect it deserves.

The Christine O'Donnell Red Herring::::::::Are The Republicans Playing Rope-A-Dope With Us?::::::::Would That Christine O'D Was The Judas Goat For The Grand Old Party

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

I have come, increasingly to believe that Christine O'Donnell is just a red herring [1] created by the GOP.  She has virtually zero chance of winning.  Even if the Feds swooped in and found Chris Coons's hard drive filled with child pornography, with him co-starring in every clip,  he would still likely shellac Christine O'D.   The last Rasmussen poll had Coons ahead of O'D by around 11%.  I'm pretty sure this week's debate will net out to her dropping another two or three points at the least.

So why is Christine the Red Herring?  The GOP were stunned by her primary win, and once that wore off, they looked around and realized they were utterly and completely effed!  They had other candidates in striking distance, without all the masturbation and witchcraft baggage.  And the power poles in the GOP didn't have what it takes to slap a muzzle on her; for all they knew she would go bat-shit crazy and start naming names.  So, they did what most of us do when caught between a rock and a hard place: nothing!   They sat on their purses and left her twisting in the wind.  But then it dawned on them that whatever crazy-talk she spoke or released could only draw heat away from some of the other Teabaggers that were saying equally or even more crazy things, but with far less media spotlight than the Delaware race.

The number of Democrats in danger is possibly up to even double the 39 seats Republicans need to consolidate their nefarious control of the House.   It is a perfect storm for the Republicans:  money, momentum and the mood of the country — which, alas, is sour on incumbents, most of who happen to be Dems.

The Democrats, and especially the independents and "uncommitted" need to focus on people in races where the Dems can actually win.  The Republicans are playing a classic game of rope-a-dope[2] with the Democratic Party. We need to get off the ropes and back into the center of the ring

__________________________

[1] Red herring is one of my favorite English idioms.  The Wikipedia gives a pretty decent definition:  "the pungent red herring would be dragged along a trail until a puppy learned to follow the scent.   Later, when the dog was being trained to follow the faint odour of a fox or a badger, the trainer would drag a red herring (whose strong scent confuses the animal) perpendicular to the animal's trail to confuse the dog.  The dog would eventually learn to follow the original scent rather than the stronger scent. An alternate etymology points to escaping convicts who would use the pungent fish to throw off hounds in pursuit."  In fact, we're following the red herring, when we need to be tracking the other, far more perilous contenders...

[2] Rope-a-dope is, according to the wikipedia, "by a boxer assuming a protected stance, in Ali's classic pose, lying against the ropes, and allowing his opponent to hit him, toward the end that the opponent will tire and make mistakes which the boxer can exploit in a counter-attack.

"In competitive situations other than boxing, rope-a-dope is used to describe strategies in which one party purposely puts itself in what appears to be a losing position, attempting thereby to become the eventual victor."

[3] In stockyards, a Judas goat will lead sheep to slaughter, while its own life is spared. Judas goats are also used to lead other animals to specific pens and on to trucks.

Sarah Palin's befuddled take on "Reagan Country"

By Pablo Fanque
All This Is That National Affairs Editor

Once again, Sarah Palin jumps the shark.  On the other hand, is that really surprising? If Ronald Reagan was running today, he would be ridiculed and excoriated by the Tea Party/Wingnuts as an unregenerate centrist and advocate of liberal appeasement. But then, Hermann Göring and Joseph Goebbels would probably also fail the litmus test.

Sarah Palin posted the following on Facebook earlier today:

This is still Reagan Country

by Sarah Palin
Saturday, October 9, 2010

Just woke this morning in Bakersfield to see that the local newspaper, The Californian, has endorsed Carly Fiorina. Check out the article here to see why Carly is the best choice for California. And please check out the campaign website for Star Parker who is running for Congress from California’s 37th district. I’m in Bakersfield today for the Bakersfield Business Conference, and tonight I’ll be in San Diego for an event for the Combat Veterans For Congress.

California is at a major crossroad in this election, and the eyes of the nation are on this state because the Golden State has unfortunately become a case study in failed liberal policies. This great state for generations has been the epitome of America’s optimism and entrepreneurial spirit. It has led the nation in agriculture, technology, and entertainment. But for years now California has been over-taxed, over-regulated, and overwhelmed by an ever increasing government bureaucracy. Sound familiar? California can turn this around, and so can America. It starts in November. This is still Reagan Country!
