Alien Lore No. 106 - The 1989 UFO Battle Over Russia

One of the best known Russian UFOlogists—Nikolay Subbotin—told this story to his fellow American UFOlogists. This bizarre story took place in the skies 0ver Zaostrovka on September 16, 1989. Six metallic UFOs and one golden UFO battled it out.

Mr. Subbotin says hundreds of people witnessed a group of six silver saucers fight against one golden UFO. The UFOs engaged in a stunning show of aerial acrobatics, flying as low as one mile above the earth. Red beams, or lasers of some sort were the weapons.

A Russian UFO web site says that an account of the battle was published in the local paper, the "Semipalatinsk." The report was written by a helicopter commander named Sichenko, who claimed that the energy generated by the warring UFOs was so intense that local power stations automatically shut down.

The witnesses interviewed by Sichenko said that the golden UFO was finally defeated, after fighting a heroic battle, and crashed into a bog on the military test range. The area was then zoned off to everyone except military personnel.

Subbotin says a Russian army team searched the area following the battle and crash and that the story leaked out from these searchers.

The entire area was insanely high in radiation readings following the crash, and was eventually shut down. A crew of military personnel guarded the site. And there the story comes to an crashing halt. This is one of those plausible sounding cases, with many witnesses, where so few details have actually emerged that it is impossible to vet its veracity.

Alien Lore No. 102—The Reds Had Their Own Project Bluebook

click all images to enlarge

According to Pravda, KGB agents recording UFO observations in a Blue Folder. . .not unlike our own government's Project Bluebook. The Blue Folder was declassified years ago. Soviet cosmonaut Pavel Popovich received a copy of the folder from the KGB in 1991. Popovich is now an honorary president of the Academy of Informational and Applied Ufology.

The Blue Folder reports on observed UFO flights and details some attempts by the military to capture some of The Greys.

In 1968, 13 aircraft designers and engineers of the Soviet Committee on Space Technology and Exploration sent a letter, requesting a special organization for the study of UFOs to Soviet Prime Minister Alexei Kosygin. A reply to the letter was sent by an Academician Shchukin:

“A number of competent organizations of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences in cooperation with the Chief Directorate of Meteorological Service, Defense Ministry and a few other agencies considered the issue of nature of the so-called flying objects. The organizations involved in the study of the atmosphere and space have been instructed to register and do research on any cases of UFOs for identification purposes. The USSR Academy of Sciences is charged with general monitoring of the phenomena, and therefore a special organization for the study of UFOs is not required.”

“It was a real breakthrough,” says Vladimir Azhazha, president of the above academy and keeper of the Blue Folder. “The authorities not only acknowledged the existence of UFOs for the first time, they also showed their great interest in the issue."

According to AzhazhaPavel Popovich was given the folder after requesting reports on the cases of UFOs. I received the folder from Popovich, it was a 124-page compilation of reports about the encounters with UFOs. The reports filed by authorities, military units COs and eyewitnesses. It took us a long time to get rid of some doubts before making the folder public."

Mr. Popovich saw a UFO once while flying in a passenger plane from Washington to Moscow. The object looked like a shining triangle and flew near the plane at about 600 miles per hour before vanishing into thin air.

Despite the letter that denied the KGB had tracked UFOs, the contents of the folder indicated seem to tell another story. The KGB launched investigations in several cases, for example, an anomaly observed near the village of Burkhala in the Magadan region on October 21, 1989. The report on the incident says: “The eyewitnesses claim to have watched a red shining sphere circulating above the village for half an hour.”

KGB agents never did figure out what happened at the airport of the city of Mineralnye Vody on December 15, 1987. According to the airport dispatchers, at 11:15 PM, flight No 65798 reported seeing an “object resembling an aircraft with its headlights on.” Radar showed no aircraft in the area. The UFO disappeared after three minutes.

The crew of another plane also observed a UFO flying in that area at 11:20. The UFO left a fiery trail in the air. The crews of the both planes reported that the UFO had disappeared after a flash or explosion. A villager saw "a burning plane" flying over his village at 11:30. Eyewitnesses said the plane then disappeared. There was no wreckage or any evidence of a plane crash.

The army at times made attempts to deal with UFOs without KGB involvement. In August 1987, servicemen of an antiaircraft unit based on the Tiksi Peninsula tried to “get to know better” an unidentified flying object that appeared on a radar screen. A report from Colonel Lobanov, a duty officer of a military unit said: “An unidentified target detected by the radar station of the commandant’s office of the antiaircraft unit at 05.45 Moscow time.” The target moved at a speed varying from 0 to 250 miles per hour. At 6:55, a helicopter took off for a closer examination of the object. The object became invisible (or just disappeared). Another aircraft flying in the vicinity at the time reported an green cloud with traces of purple and dark spots visible in the middle

An incident occurred in the Leningrad Military Region in early August of 1987. Five officers were dispatched to the northern part of Karelia to accompany an object of unknown origin that had been located near the city of Vyborg. The object was said to be 14 m long, 4 meters wide and 2.5 m high. The military failed to open the “extraterrestrial can.” Eventually, the object disappeared from the hangar late September.

On July 28, 1989, a UFO caused a panic military personnel near Kapustin Yar, in the Astrakhan region. Corporal Valery Voloshin was on duty in the communications center at the time. He filed a report on the case.

Researchers now believe the Blue Folder is a valuable cache of information. According to Mr. Azhazha, the evidence suggests that intelligent life forms control the objects that mean no harm to human beings. Nothing in the Blue Folder indicates that any UFO had ever taken action against any human. Every single episode the Soviets recorded depicts the aliens essentially performing drive-bys.

Alien Lore No. 101—The oldest known UFO photographs

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore Ed.

The most interesting information about these photos is that they were all photographed many years before The Roswell Incident, or the Mt. Rainier UFO sightings of 1947—both of which helped catapult UFOs into the popular imagination.

This photo was taken in 1870 at Mt. Washington, New Hampshire. The photo has been called "the oldest UFO photograph ever taken." This image was the subject of spirited bidding on E-bay in 2002 and was purchased by Samuel M. Sherman, the President of Independent-International Pictures Corp.

This image was shot in 1927 at Cave Junction, Oregon. The picture was reportedly snapped by a volunteer fireman. Click on to see full size image to really appreciate the picture.

In 1929 at SlideWard, Colorado, a photographer captured this alleged UFO photograph. According the Hetty Pline, the photographer's daughter "This photo was taken by my father Edward Pline at the sawmill in Ward where we lived at the time, I think it was 1929. I was about six years old then. My father was there to photograph the sawmill for some reason or another, and as he was taking the photo, he described a "terrible thunderous bellow," and a large round thing as big as a very large boulder that moved through the air above them. You can see it in the picture. None of the sawmill workers saw the thing in the photo, but they all heard the sound and felt the ground shudder. Later in my life I tried researching the incident at the County Historical Society, but I did not find any references to it. My father passed on a few years after the incident, and I have not found any surving sawmill workers from that time. "

In this image, the alarm klaxons installed in the event of a Japanese air raid began blaring, and flying objects are seen and announced in the sky off the city. I have written about this incident before. A blackout was declared and terrified Los Angelenos turned off all the lights.

The anti-aircraft guns opened fire on the UFOs, and as you see in the photo, the projector beams began searching the sky. Many witnesses saw small objects flying at high altitude, of red or silver plated color. The saucers moved in formation at a high rate of speed, and the anti-aircraft artillery were useless. FDR got involved in this one. See the story in All This Is That...

In May 1932, at St. Paris, Ohio,
someone took this picture of George Sutton. It was probably 1932 judging by the license plate on the car. George looks pretty calm for having a UFO hovering over his head. Nobody has been able to account for the dark object seen over Sutton's left shoulder in this photograph.

Those Actually Were UFOs Over Phoenix in 1997 Says Former Governor Symington

Former Gov. Fife Symington says now that those strange lights that appeared over Phoenix a decade ago were from another world and he admitted having a close encounter with an alien craft on March 13, 1997. At the time, however, he publicly mocked the very idea at a press conference. The Arizona Daily Star has an interesting article about his new revelations.

Symington, who was in his second term as governor of Arizona during the Phoenix Lights incident, recently told a UFO investigator making a documentary that he had kept quiet about his personal close encounter because he didn't want to panic the populace.

Symington repeated his story Thursday on CNN, saying the craft he saw was "enormous. It just felt other-worldly. In your gut, you could just tell it was other-worldly."

Alien Lore No. 100: France Releases The Motherlode Of UFO Reports

France opened its files on UFOs Thursday when their space agency rolled out a website documenting 1,600 sightings in the last fifty years.

The archive will be updated as new cases are reported. It includes reports from obviously delusional crackpots to cases that still have scientists scratching their heads. The U.S. has been notoriously stingy with their files. Over the years, only a few documents have appeared under the Freedom of Information Act.

As you well know, UFOs have always engendered conspiracy theories about government cover-ups of findings of things so horrible and frightening that the public Must Never Know.

Of the 1,600 cases since 1954, nearly 25 percent are classified as "type D", meaning that "despite good or very good data and credible witnesses, we are confronted with something we can't explain."

The website appears to be seriously overloaded, but things should be better in a few days: www.cnes-geipan.fr

Another attempt at Faces 3.0 identikit software

This was about the best I could come up with. Let's face it. . .if this was the mug on my Wanted Poster, I would still be at large!

On the other hand, the pros seem to actually know what they're doing:

Poem: Changes 43/Breakthrough!

1
You achieve breakthrough
Like the river breaches its dikes
Or rain is freed in a cloudburst

Danger—
It does not further to take up arms
It is time to notify the city

2
Resolution is based on strength and friendship
Compromise with evil is impossible
Evil must be swiftly discredited or worse

If we do evil the favor of fighting it
Blow for blow we lose in the end
Entangled in hatred and intrigue

With no opponent
The sharp weapons of evil are dulled
The best way to fight evil

Is to strengthen the goodness
When the lake's water rises to heaven
There is reason to fear a deluge

3
All gathering
Is followed
By dispersion

To plunge blindly ahead is wrong
It is at the beginning
That unexpected setbacks

Have the most disastrous results
Fear nothing and be watchful at all times
For a cry of alarm

Be on guard against what is not in sight
And on the alert for what is not within hearing
If reason triumphs

4
The passions withdraw
You walk alone in the rain
And encounter insuperable obstacles

Victory is a sham
Evil can be concealed
And the remaining seeds will fluorish.

An unusual report of a UFO and a green-faced entity seen near an old U.S. Air Force Nike Missile Base in Redmond, Washington

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore Ed.

From a MUFON (Mutual UFO Network) Report. This UFO and alien sighting occurred a couple of miles away from my office.

DATE: June 24, 1988
TIME: Sometime between 12:30 and 2:00 A.M. Pacific Daylight Time
LOCATION: Redmond, Washington
DURATION: Estimates vary, around 7 minutes for sighting of UFO; about 45 minutes total duration including sighting of face, possibly longer

SOURCE OF SIGHTING: UFO Information Service (Goudie)

INVESTIGATORS:
Donald A. Johnson, Ph.D., MUFON
Don Olson, MUFON
Rita Andreeva, MUFON

Four 11-year-old girls who had attended a private Christian elementary school together were having a slumber party reunion at the home of one of the girls on Education Hill in Redmond, Washington. At a few minutes after either 12:30 AM or 1:30 AM they were looking out the window to see if they could find the girl's dog. They were downstairs in the TV room, while the parents and brother and sister of the host were asleep upstairs. They witnessed a craft-like UFO, described as either a domed-disc or two plates put together edge-to- edge, hovering in the night sky. It had white and red lights and possibly faint green lights around the rim of the object. Of the two girls interviewed, both thought right away that it was a UFO (i.e. "spacecraft"), and not an aircraft because it was similar to a picture they had once seen in a book.

The UFO was hovering at about 30 degrees above the horizon when first sighted. It was described as smaller than a house in size, possibly 25 feet in diameter. The UFO moved to the right horizontally about 10 degrees, reversed direction abruptly and moved back in a straight line to the left 10 degrees, moved back to the right 5 degrees to a center position, and then moved really fast straight down. It moved down behind some tall evergreen trees and the girls thought that it probably came down in a clearing in Nike Park, about 3-4 blocks from the girl's home where they were staying. The UFO was reported to be visible through the window of the TV room for a total of between 2 and 7 minutes.

Sometime later, within 15 minutes to a half an hour, two of the girls witnessed a frightening face. The accounts of how the face appeared to them varies. In one account the girls thought they saw something like a shadow or a figure at the top of the stairs leading up to the kitchen. The became scared and hid in their sleeping bags; they zipped them over their heads and lay next to each other. They conversed through the bags and agreed to look at the same time, so that it would not be too scary. As they pulled the bags down from over their heads they saw a dark, mossy green face only about arm's length away. Really frightened, one of the girls pulled the sleeping bag over her head, and when she looked out again in a few minutes, the being was gone. The other girl's account said they were lying on their backs trying to get to sleep and staring up at the ceiling when all of a sudden they both saw this green face. She watched it for about 45 seconds, "and then it just, went away". Asked if it just vanished like it was a slide from a projector or something, she said, no, it wasn't like that. It was just like a real face, but it was green in color and it was looking at them. The second girl appears to be unclear about how the face appeared because she also reports she covered her head with the sleeping bag at one point but can't remember when.

The face was described as greenish in hue, with red, glowing eyes. Interviewed separately, both of the girls said there was something like a dent in one of the cheeks. One girl said it looked
like the "face on Mars" photograph she saw in the newspaper about a week later, while the other girl said it had pointy ears and bushy eyebrows. When asked a direct question later about the pointed ears, the second girl said she didn't remember any ears. If the face had indeed been attached to a body, one girl figures that the being must have been about 3 1/2 to 4 feet tall.

About 10 to 15 minutes later the second girl, who lived there, saw a clump of rainbow colored lights slowly revolving in her kitchen and flashing light all over the ceiling and refrigerator. The first girl made a vague reference to lights in the kitchen but apparently did not see the rainbow-colored clump of lights hovering in the kitchen (the kitchen is partially visible from the TV room, up half a flight of stairs).

The girls became noisy discussing what they had seen woke the mother. The mother came down and ordered them to go to sleep. Apparently nothing further happened that night.

Of the other two girls, they are certain that one saw what they saw but would not consent to be interviewed by UFO investigators. They are unsure what the fourth girl saw. The second girl, the one at whose home the events occurred, reported that she had had a precognitive experience during that previous day, recalling during a croquet match that she had dreamed those exact events some weeks before. She also reports that since the UFO incident she is no longer subject to nose bleeds, which she reports have occurred to her chronically throughout her life and also occur with her father. She also said that a soccer injury to her knee no longer gave her any pain after the encounter, and she attributes the healing to the event.
