Poem: The Grey Ambassador

By Jack Brummet

Flybys, crop circles, and other maneuvers
Were executed
To demonstrate their capability.

After the flybys, came landings, and contact.
The visitors
Did not appear hostile.

Some say we were softened up
By E.T., Klaatu, and ALF
And thought this was a mission of mercy.

If they figured out how to get here,
And have come to make war,
We can't stop them.

If they "come in peace"
To teach what they learned
The Hard Way,
Let’s get started.

Alien Lore No. 266 - UFO over the moon?

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore Ed.

Crow Tripplehorn, a moon observer who shoots high definition videos through an 8-inch telescope -- captured intriguing footage this month of a UFO flying above the moon's surface.

On Tripplehorn's YouTube page, he pledges to "never run deceptive or misleading clips on this channel. I strive to shoot the highest quality UFO and anomaly footage possible with the equipment at my disposal."

Well, we all know the veracity of UFOlogists, but this guy actually sounds fairly sane. The intriguing thing about the video, according to Tripplehorn, is that the object shows enough variation in the navigation that it could not be a satellite.

Alien Lore No. 202 - Dolan & Zabel on UFO Disclosure: "There is going to be blowback beyond belief:"

By Jack Brummet Alien Lore and Unexplained Phenomena Editor

"A.D. After Disclosure: The People's Guide to Life After Contact" is a new book about what happens after the powers-that-be acknowledge ET/UFO reality after sixty years of concealing and obscuring the truth.

The book is written by Richard Dolan and Bryce Zabel.  A.D. is a work of "speculative non-fiction," published by Keyhole Publishing.  In the video clip below, Dolan and Zabel discuss many of the concepts they touch on in their book.  Zabel was also a creator of the prescient show Dark Skies that we have written about on All This Is That numerous times.

This is a fascinating video of speculation on the long-standing question--not "what if?" but "when."

Alien Lore No. 201 - Was JFK killed because of his interest in aliens?

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore & Unexplained Phenomena Editor

thanks to Jeff Clinton for the news tip...

Was JFK assassinated because of his interest in aliens? [1] A recently released memo shows that The President asked to see UFO files 10 days before death.   This very scenario was a central part and key plot element of one of my favorite TV shows of all time, the great series Dark Skies by Bryce Zabel.  In Dark Skies, JFK was assassinated after demanding to see Majestic's files on the Roswell "incident."

A letter written by President Kennedy to the head of the CIA shows that the president demanded to be shown confidential documents a week before before his assassination.  The memo is one of two letters written by JFK asking for information about the paranormal on November 12, 1963.[2]  These letters have been released by the CIA for the first time.   Of course, the CIA may have its own reasons for this.  Many of the JFK conspiracy people have pointed a finger at the Central Intelligence Agency ever since the day he was assassinated.

Author William Lester said the CIA released the documents to him under a Freedom of Information Act request he made as he researched his new book 'A Celebration of Freedom: JFK and the New Frontier.'   Alien researchers say the latest documents add weight to earlier suggestions that JFK was shot to prevent him discovering the truth about UFOs, and an alien invasion that may have already been underway.

As a sidenote, after he became President, Bill Clinton asked his Assistant Attorney General, Webster Hubbell, to investigate two things. “One, who killed JFK? And two, are there UFOs?” Bryce Zabel writes on the website After Disclosure about Bill Clinton's request:  "Clinton may not have realized how closely the two questions may have been connected." [3]

Zabel also said "The Kennedy assassination is something like Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express. Everyone had a motive: the Mafia, the CIA, the Cubans, the Pentagon, the Soviets, and the Federal Reserve, for starters. Could that list also include Majestic Twelve, the name often ascribed to the powerful insiders who control the UFO secret?

"My answer to that question is, why not?

[1] As many JFK conspiracy theorists have pointed out--although they admittedly generally have their one pet theory--everyone had a motive.

[2] JFK researcher Professor Lawrence Merrick, author of an upcoming blockbuster book Killing the Messenger: The Death of JFK, writes that JFK planned to give a speech that began "Citizens of this Earth, we are not alone."  John F. Kennedy planned to inform the American public and the world at large that the U.S. government had made contact with aliens from deep space.

[3]  This is not new information.  One website wrote about a JFK-UFO link as early as 2003 (there are probably other earlier references in books and on the web).  Conspiracies That Parallax: JFK’s Assassination & UFO Alien Abductions

Alien Lore No. 197 - An interactive map of 15 years of UFO sightings.

By Jack Brummet, Paranormal & Unexplained Phenomena Editor

A few months ago, Slate published an interactive map detailing fifteen years of UFO sightings as collected by the National UFO Reporting Center.  NUFORC was located in Seattle, but has now moved to a former Intercontinental Ballistic Missile base in eastern Washington. The article includes some fascinating data and maps.  NUFORC has, over the years, collected accounts of of over 30,000 close and not so close encounters with, well, something. Read the article from Slate here.

Alien Lore No. 195 - The Krill Papers & the tenth planet, or some other armada

By Jack Brummet
Paranormal Editor

The Krill Papers are either a fascinating collection of confabulations, pretzel logic, and pure conspiracy hokum, or a shocking expose of a government that sold us down the tubes to invaders.  The Krill Papers were purportedly dictated by an alien hostage left with our government when his spacecraft landed at Holloman Air Force Base in the 1960's. The Krill Papers were released by William Cooper and have been the subject of much heated debate in the UFO community.  You can read them here.

The Krill Papers stated purpose is to prove:

  • Craft from other worlds have crashed on Earth.
  • Alien craft are from both ultra-dimensional sources and sources within this dimension.
  • Early U.S. government efforts at acquiring alien technology were successful.
  • The U.S. government has had live alien hostages at some point in time.
  • The government has conducted autopsies on alien cadavers.
  • U.S. intelligence agencies, security agencies, and public agencies are involved in the cover up of facts pertaining to the situation.
  • People have been and are currently abducted, mutilated, murdered and kidnapped as a result of the UFO situation.
  • There is a current active alien presence on this planet among us that controls difference elements of our society.
  • Alien forces maintain bases on Earth and on the Moon.
  • The U.S. government has had a working relationship with alien forces for some time, with the express purpose of gaining technology in gravitational propulsion, beam weaponry and mind control.
  • Millions of cattle have been killed in the process of acquiring biological materials.
  • Both aliens and the U.S. government are responsible for mutilations, but for different reasons.
  • We live in a multi-dimensional world that is overlapped and visited by entities from other dimensions. Many of these entities are hostile. Many are not hostile.
  • The basis of our genetic development and religions lies in intervention by non-terrestrial and terrestrial forces.
  • Actual technology far exceeds that perceived by the public.
  • The United States space program is a cover operation that exists for public relations purposes. - People are being actively killed in order to suppress the facts about the situation. The CIA and the NSA are involved so deeply that exposure would cause collapse of their overt structure.
  • Facts indicate alien overt presence within five to ten years.
  • Our civilization is one of many that have existed in the last billion years.

Alien Lore No. 194 - The first UFO visit, and the first UFO crash 114 years ago?

By Jack Brummet, Paranormal and Alien Lore Editor

This incident is often considered to be the first documented sighting of a UFO, although generally UFOlogists skip ahead to the Kenneth Arnold UFO sighting near Mount Rainier half a century later. . .

In 1897 a cigar shaped object--they weren't known as "flying saucers" until 1947--was reported by numerous Americans as it traveled from San Francisco to Chicago. Hundreds of people lined Lake Michigan in wait for it's appearance.  Earlier that same year, newspapers reported that a spacecraft crashed into a Judge J.F. Proctor's windmill and then exploded.  They found the body of a tiny pilot, described as "not of this world."  A journal found in the space vehicle contained writing in an unknown language.  Sweetly, the townspeople arranged for the burial of the tiny pilot.

In  1973, a Dallas Times Herald reporter, Bill Case, digging around the crash site found a number of metal fragments.  He brought the shards to Dr. Tom Gray, a North Texas University physicist, who said at least some of the strange pieces of metal could not be identified.

The reporter compared metal detector readings from the crash site to those at the grave of the space pilot. The unusual signals were identical. This first "documented" UFO crash is still a mystery.

Curiously, around the same time, Marie Harris, in Garland, Texas, found a strange thing growing in her backyard that was "as big as a platter, foamy and creamy, and pale yellow" and "pulsated like a beating heart." When Mrs. Harris chopped on it, its "blood" was a red and purple goo.  A biologist from the University of Texas called it a fungus. Finally, sunlight seemed to kill it.

Alien Lore No. 187 - John Titor--real, unreal?

John Titor may or may not be a real person, or s/he may be a real person using the name John Titor.  Did Titor make all this up, or did someone make John Titor up?  John Titor claim to have traveled back (and forth) in time.  The photos?  Who knows--they could be stills from a Star Trek set for all I know!

clip 1 of the time machine from John Timor

According to the Wikipedia, "The first post appeared on the Time Travel Institute forums on November 2, 2000, under the name TimeTravel_0. At the time the posts had nothing to do with future events and the name "John Titor" was not being used. Instead, the posts discussed time travel in general, the first one being the "six parts" description of what a time machine would need to have to work (see below) and responses to questions about how such a machine would work"

Clip 2 - John Titor's time machine

In online posts, Titor said that he was an American soldier from the year 2036, from Tampa, who works for (or is it will work for?!) a governmental time-travel project.  Titor says he was sent back to 1975 to bring back a computer needed to debug old computer programs in 2036.  He was chosen for time travel because his grandfather was directly involved with the assembly and programming of the computer he was bringing back.
Mr. Titor claimed that he briefly stopped on earth in the year 2000 for "personal reasons" (to collect pictures he would lose in a war in the future, and also to visit his family.  Titor also said he had tried to spread the alarm about Mad Cow Disease, and about a potential new civil war in the U.S. Online, he also expressed interest in unexplained UFOs, and thought the aliens might be time travelers from much further into the future than 2036.

John titor described his time machine as a  "stationary mass, temporal displacement unit powered by two top-spin, dual positive singularities", producing a "standard off-set Tipler sinusoid".

In 2003, the John Titor Foundation published a book, John Titor: A Time Traveler's Tale, discussing (and documenting?)  his claims.

An Italian TV show, (Voyager - Ai confini della conoscenza) investigated the Titor story on May 19, 2008.  A private detective--Mike Lynch--hired to investigate, found that there were no registry traces of any John Titor or Titor family; that the John Titor Foundation had no office and its address is a post office box; that no tapes, recordings, or evidence of Titor have ever been found; and that only Larry Haber (owner of the commercial rights to John Titor) confirmed his existence.  The investigator believes that John Titor may be John Rick Haber--Larry Haber's brother, a computer professional....

Alien Lore No. 186 - Indrid Cold, The Grinning Man

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore and Paranormal Editor

Indrid Cold

Even in the strange, often paranoid, twisted, and highly speculative world of Alien Lore and UFOlogy, The Grinning Man is a mystery.  The Grinning Man has been spotted several times during periods of intense UFO encounters (for instance, during the 1960s Mothman sightings). Maybe he has been seen around El Paso or Manhattan in the recent wave of sightings that were witnessed by thousands.

At the famous Mothman sightings, two teen-aged witnesses said he looked at them with what is sometimes referred to as a "s***-eating grin" on his face. According to researchers who interviewed the boys, he: “was over six feet tall, they agreed, and was dressed in a sparkling green coverall costume that shimmered and seemed to reflect the street lights. There was a wide black belt around his waist.”

The boys also saidHe had a very dark complexion, and little round eyes…real beady…set far apart.” Oddly,  “They could not remember seeing any hair, ears, or nose on this figure.” During the Mothman sightings, the grinning man is alleged to have telepathically told a witness his name was Indrid Cold.

The Grinning Man is an obscure figure associated with Alien Lore.   Some scholars and observers believe he is an alien, and others that he was one of the government's Men in Black.  Indrid Cold is thus far his best known incarnation.  He has been  investigated by notable paranormal author John A. Keel and ufologist James Moseley.

The most famous sighting of The Grinning Man went down on October 11, 1966 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. James Yanchitis and Marvin Munoz were walking home along Fourth Street.  Yanchitis noticed the weird man first. "He was standing behind that fence," he told investigators, "I don't know how he got there. He was the biggest man I ever saw." "Jimmy nudged me," Marvin Munoz told the cops, "and said, 'Who's that guy standing behind you?' I looked around and there he was... behind that fence. Just standing there. He pivoted around and looked right at us... then he grinned a big old grin." During the same period of time, on that same street, on the same night, a middle-aged resident of the neighborhood was chased by a "tall green man" The boys skedaddled as soon as they saw The Grinning Man.

According to paranormal investigator/journalist John A. Keel, and the UFO lecturer James Moseley,  Munoz and Yanchitis were interviewed by them separately and told the exact same story. "The man was over six feet tall, they agreed, and was dressed in a sparkling green coverall costume that shimmered and seemed to reflect the street lights. There was a wide black belt around his waist."  The freakiest part of the encounter is that "They could not remember seeing any hair, ears, or nose on this figure."

The Grinning Man, a/k/a Indrid Cold was linked to extraterrestrials due to a UFO report in the same area. A report states that a "blazing white light as big as a car" almost hit a 550-foot tall television tower near Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. A policeman and his wife witnessed an object move in a slow arc north, until it disappeared over some nearby hills. On the other side of those hills, two other cops--Sgt. Benjamin Thompson and a Patrolman, Edward Wester, of the Wanaque Reservoir Police, witnessed the same light at 9:45 p.m. as it flew over the reservoir. "The light was brilliantly white," officer Thompson said, "It lit up the whole area for about three hundred yards. In fact, it blinded me when I got out of the patrol car to look at it, and I couldn't see for about twenty minutes afterwards."

Numerous Grinning Man sightings happened in 1966, about the same time as the West Virginia Mothman sightings.  They are reported by John A. Keel in chapters 5 and 10 in his book The Mothman Prophecies.

On November 2, 1966, a man named Woodrow Derenberger was driving his panel truck home after work when he heard a crash. A vehicle raced up behind him, cut in front of him and slowed down. Derenberger said the car looked like "an old fashioned kerosene lamp chimney, flaring at both ends, narrowing down to a small neck and then enlarging in a great bulge in the center."

The UFO stopped on the road, and a door slid open. A man stepped out, wearing a "glistening green" uniform like the outfit worn by the New Jersey Grinning Man. Naturally, he was grinning.

The man communicated with Derenberger telepathically and said his name was "Cold", and asked him strange questions, and the two talked for a few minutes.  The Grinning Man said he would visit him again.

Another case detailed  in the Mothman Prophecies book, happened in the home of the Lillys, a family living in Point Pleasant. The Lillys claimed to see strange lights in the sky right above their home at least every night, and experienced strange events in their house.  Mrs. Lilly said "We've seen all kinds of strange things...blue lights, green ones, red ones, things that change color. Some have been so low that we thought we could see diamond-shaped windows in them. And none of them make any noise at all." Automobiles near the Lilly home would stall for no reason, and kitchen cabinets and doors inside the Lilly home would slam inexplicably in the middle of the night.  Mrs. Lilly said she sometimes heard a sound like "a baby crying" throughout the inside of the home.

John A. Keel, who investigated the Lilly family, asked "Did you ever dream that there was a stranger in the house in the middle of the night?" Linda Lilly, the daughter, said she had seen "a man, a big man. Very broad. I couldn't see his face very well, but I could see that he was grinning at me."

Alien Lore No. 164 - An interstellar portal opens up over Norway: The Greys crave Lutefisk

Thanks to Jeff Clinton for pointing out this story on altaposten.no. The quotes are [shaky] Google translations of the Norwegian web pages.

Spectacular phenomenon in
the skies over northern Norway

"In the morning rush hour, at 07.47, showed the special phenomenon in the sky. Thousands of people across northern Norway has been joined by the phenomenon, and the phone lines to both Altaposten, most other northern Norwegian media, and also the capital of the newspapers have glowed."

"The phenomenon described as a glowing ball in the sky, which rotated and "thrown out" luminous rings. The phenomenon grew rapidly in a spiral, with bright white rings towards the edges and blue, bright rings in the center. Helio was growing, until it eventually was significantly greater than both the moon and other things it will be normal to find in the sky. "Spiral" also walked across the sky, leaving a bright blue track."

The whole thing lasted just under one minute and then the spiral in the sky appeared to collapse, leaving a dark, circular "hole" in the night sky.

"It was a very special sight, a kind of white spiral, giant, who lit up the sky. Eventually, it was a big, black ring with a bright green (aurora colored) tail behind him. In the end, only the tail again, and it could be seen in the sky about 10 minutes afterwards as well, writes Liv Reidun Tverelv in an e-mail to Altaposten. "

Of course, as happens with every paranormal story, there are debunkers and "rational" explanations, e.g., spoilsports. One came from CBS news, claiming the portal was merely a missile gone awry:

"According to CBS News and other media, the Russian authorities confirmed on Thursday that it was a Bulava missile, which failed and ended his days in the spin far up the atmosphere Wednesday morning. Seven of the 12 test launches of the "Bulava" missile has been unsuccessful, according to the Russian Defense Ministry."

A reader, Anders, offered up a more scientific explanation:

"Posted by Anders Olav Bjørkavåg 09/12/2009 18:54:13

"This fun lysfenomenet NOK has an electrical origin. Discharges in plasma organizes itself as "Birkeland Cables" and can therefore lead the electric charge over large distances. These are configured as coils of cables - "tornado shape" if you will. At low power, these are invisible. Increases energy intensity, it begins to glow as the fluorescent and the Northern Lights. With increasing intensity, these self-organized wires push themselves further along in what is called z-pinch effect. This causes a further konsentrereing of electrical energy and a get-glowing plasma arc (as in lightning and sparks). They organize themselves again often in special formations where some typeiske varieties are precisely the spiral shape (Galaxy Form) and ring structure (such as some planetary nebula).

"The reason that meterologer and astronomers do not recognize this right away is that they are not trained in plasma physics. Plasma Physicists will recognize phenomena from plasma (electricity) experiments in the labs and in the simulations."

Alien Lore No. 135 - More on Edgar Mitchell's alien revelations - an interview with Moonwalker Dr Edgar Mitchell

Following up on our earlier article here (Alien Lore No. 134), here are some more of Dr. Edgar Mithchell's revelations from an interview.

Astronaut and Apollo 14 moon-walker Dr Edgar Mitchell claims that aliens exist. He says extra-terrestrials have visited Earth on several occasions - but the alien contact has been repeatedly and systematically covered up by The Government for six decades. Dr Mitchell, 77, said on the radio that sources at the space agency described the beings as basically textbook greys.

He also claimed our technology is "not nearly as sophisticated" as theirs. In itself that's not so shocking if you believe his story. Greys merely appearing on earth would indicate a civilization exponentially more advanced than ours, where our greatest success so far is to have a dozen people walk on the earth's nearest satellite, the moon. . .about 239,000 miles away.

The good part? "Had they been hostile," he warned, "we would be gone by now". Like Virgil Solozzo said to Tom Hagen in The Godfather. "If I wanted you dead, you'd be dead already .'

Alien Lore No. 129 - A report by a visiting Nordic Grey

Observations by a Visiting Nordic (from the Krill Papers

In October, 1987, UFO researcher George Andrews was successfully able to contact one of the Nordics not associated with the Greys, through a woman in California. What follows are the comments made by the alien:

"Were you a culture about to invade, you would not do it with a flourish of ships showing up in the heavens and undergo risk of being fired upon. That's the type of warfare slightly less evolved beings get into. You would create intense confusion and disagreement with only inferences to your presence -- inferences which would [in turn] cause controversial disagreement.

The Greys are insidious little fiends. They did exactly [to us] what they're doing here [to you]. You are not on the verge of an invasion. You are not in the middle of an invasion. The invasion has already taken place. It's merely in its final stages.

"What would you invade? [Here he describes the operational plan of the Greys from the beginning.] You would go to the most secret of communities within a society. In the case of the United States, you would go and infiltrate the CIA. You would take over some of them and you would take over part of the KGB.

"You would create great dissension and disagreement between factions of the public at large -- some groups saying they have seen UFOs, others saying 'No, no, this is not possible.' You would involve two major countries in an on-going idiotic philosophical disagreement so that while the Soviet Union and the United States constantly battle back and forth about who has which piece of territory or whether one invades Iran or whether one invades Afghanistan or whatever... whether one dismantles one nuclear warhead or the other dismantles another group of warheads -- you would sit back and laugh if you had the capacity to laugh.

"You would present yourself indeed to some in a group who would protect you [CIA or MJ-12] thinking they had a secret more secret and more perfect knowledge of something than anyone else on this planet had, and they would covet you and you would trust their own greed and you would trust their own mass stupidity to trap them. And you'd do it on both sides

"You'd show yourself to some of the mass populace to further involve [factions of] the government in an attempt to shut them up, to keep them even more busy quieting them and trying to 'stop more information about UFOs from getting out.' You'd have the mass populace to a state where they distrusted the government. 'Oh, why don't they believe us? Why can't they understand that these things are really happening? We're not crazy!'

"So you would have battles constantly about whether UFOs exist or they don't exist. You would have the public and the government at each other's throats. You would set two major superpowers at each other's throats. And you would have set up groups like 'haves' -- the wealthy but contented -- and the 'have- nots.' You would plant the seeds of massive discontent.
"Eventually you might have some show of ships landing in the 1990s. One or two. By the time they have landed, be assured they will be in complete control. You will start doing crossbreeds and more crossbreeds, generation after generation.

"You bribe the government with a few tidbits -- a Star Wars system. You tease and tempt the Soviet Union with a laser system far finer than any of their own scientists could think of. And you always have that subtle inference -- just on the borderline of consciousness so that UFOs don't seem to believable, yet you keep it couched in secrecy and make it seem quite so insane that no one would believe them. On top of it, you would unleash forces that would want to kill them [UFO contactees] if they disclosed that the CIA is dealing with the exact same things the [contact victim] is.

"Maybe one or two hundred years from now, some of the Greys will even physically mingle and you may have some creatures walking around who are pretty much hybrids between Greys and your own race. For now, anything that walks around will look much like yourselves. It's simpler. It holds down on mass panic.

"Everyone who has experiences with them [Greys] will be at odds with the government. To add to that, we will go into a complete phased of earthquake after earthquake and upheaval after upheaval.

"The inner core of the CIA is deeply controlled by the Greys. The CIA sees interaction with the Greys as a path to greater scientific achievement.

"One reason you are seeing so many different kinds of UFOs is that other cultures are watching with extreme interest. Scientists from other cultures arrive to watch. The Greys have not only taken over the intelligence agencies, they have also taken over what those agencies call 'lunatic fringe groups.' "

Alien Lore No. 128 - The Vatican Says Aliens Are God's Children Too

According to an Associated Press article yesterday, datelined from The Vatican, "The Vatican's chief astronomer says that believing in aliens does not contradict faith in God."

The Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory, says the vastness of the universe means it is possible there may be other forms of life outside Earth--even intelligent ones.

In an interview published Tuesday by Vatican's L'Osservatore Romano, Funes says that such a notion "doesn't contradict our faith" because aliens would still be God's creatures.

The astronomer said that ruling out the possibility of aliens would be like "putting limits" on God's creative freedom.

Thanks to Jeff Clinton for the tip on this fine article...

Alien Lore No. 126 - The Kecksburg UFO Episode

On December 9, 1965, a large, fantastically bright fireball was seen by thousands in at least seven states and provinces. [ed's note: I saw a fireball once, about five years ago in Seattle, standing in my front yard. At first I thought, they're here. An eighth of a second later I thought it was a missile, and then I had no idea. It was a light dull green and after it was gone (almost instantly), I stood in my front yard bewildered. The next day, Seattle Post Intelligencer reported a lot of people had seen it and an astronomer posited that it was probably space junk, or a large meteorite burning up as it entered the atmosphere. I can't remember if it made a sound or not, but meteorite researchers say that any sound a meteor might make would occur long after the meteor had vanished--due to the relatively slow speed of sound... Whatever I saw looked a lot like the fireball pictured above, except it was colored a light pea-green, like a 1959 Rambler.]

The fireball (don't you love the word...and the concept?) rocketed over the Detroit, Michigan/Windsor, Ontario area and dropped reported metal debris over Michigan and northern Ohio. It caused sonic booms in western Pennsylvania and was generally reported by the press to be a meteor. However, some eyewitnesses in Kecksburg, a village 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, claimed something crashed in the woods.

One boy said he saw the object land; his mother saw a wisp of blue smoke in the woods and called the police. The local volunteer fire department members reported an object in the shape of an acorn and about as large as a Volkswagen Beetle. Writing resembling Egyptian hieroglyphics ran in a band around the base of the UFO (ed's note: a fairly common occurrence in many sightings). Witnesses said there was an intense army presence that secured the area, ordered the civilians out, and carted the UFO out on a flatbed truck.

The military searched the woods and found "absolutely nothing." Or, so they say.

The nearby Greensburg Tribune-Review's reporter at the scene wrote an article the next day with the headline "Unidentified Flying Object Falls near Kecksburg — Army Ropes off Area."

The government explanation of the fireball was that it was a mid-sized meteor, however, speculation as to what the Kecksburg object was range from it being an alien craft to the remains of an unmanned Soviet Venera 4 atmospheric probe (known as Kosmos-96, originally destined for Venus). Similarities have been drawn between Kecksburg and the Roswell UFO incident, and the Kecksburg event is often referred to as "Pennsylvania's Roswell".

of the European Fireball Network camera system

The February 1966 issue of Sky & Telescope reported that the fireball was seen over the Detroit-Windsor area at about 4:44 p.m. EST. The Federal Aviation Administration received 23 reports from aircraft pilots, first starting at 4:44 p.m. A seismograph 25 miles southwest of Detroit recorded shock waves created by the fireball as it passed through the atmosphe re.

The FAA concluded that the fireball was descending at a steep angle, from the southwest to the northeast, and probably fell to earth on the northwestern shore of Lake Erie.

A reporter and news director for the local radio station WHJB, John Murphy, arrived on the scene of the event before authorities had arrived, in response to several calls to the station from alarmed citizens, and took several photographs and conducted interviews with witnesses.

His former wife Bonnie Milslagle later reported that all but one roll of the film was confiscated by military personnel. In the following weeks, Murphy became enveloped with the incident and wrote a radio documentary called Object in the Woods, featuring his experiences and interviews he had conducted that night. Shortly before the documentary was to air, he received an unexpected visit at the station from two men in black suits identifying themselves as government officials. A week after the visit, an agitated Murphy aired a censored version of the documentary, which he claimed in its introduction had to be edited due to some interviewees requesting their statements be removed from the broadcast in fear of getting in trouble with the Army. Mazza remembers the aired documentary was entirely different from what Murphy had originally written. In 1969, John Murphy was struck and killed by an unidentified car in an apparent hit-and-run while crossing a road.

In 2003, the Sci Fi Channel sponsored a scientific study of the area and related records done by the Coalition for Freedom of Information. The most significant finding of the scientific team was tree damage dating to around 1965 at the site where some eyewitnesses said they saw the object. Air Force Project Blue Book documents indicate a three-man team was sent from an Air Force radar-installation near Pittsburgh to investigate the Kecksburg crash. They reported back to Blue Book that nothing was found.

In December 2005, just before the Kecksburg crash 40th anniversary, NASA released a statement to the effect that they had examined metallic fragments from the object and now claimed it was from a re-entering "Russian satellite." The spokesman further claimed that the related records had been misplaced. According to the Associated Press story:

The object appeared to be a Russian satellite that re-entered the atmosphere and broke up. NASA experts studied fragments from the object, but records of what they found were lost in the 1990s. This new explanation from NASA contradicts the official Air Force explanation in 1965 of the fireball being from a meteor.

Alien Lore No.121: The Telepathic Aliens In Kent (England)

This is a fascinating story from Bufora (the British version of MUFON, the national UFO network located here in Seattle). Here are some of the most interesting "facts." To read the entire, baffling story, go here.
Judy Jaafar's findings in the Bromley, Kent, 24th August 2003 alien sighting and her interview and investigation:

  • Judy Jaafar investigated the case initially in 2003, but even this year, BUFORA was contacted BUFORA by email, trying to tell her stories to other, perhaps more receptive ears.

  • Two investigators were dispatched to research "what turned out to be some of the strangest testimony we have ever heard." One them ran a tape recorder, and the other took notes.

  • Sarah is clearly and undoubtedly the dominant of the two personalities, but she defers to John the channeler of spirits, and latterly aliens, but deferring in a way that assures his compliance.

  • Both Sarah and John say they have no knowledge of alien lore and have never read a book or magazine on the subject, nor seen any films.

  • Linda can be a grey or take human form, and in both forms he can be visible or invisible. John is channele and a psychic, who is more "open" to greys since meeting Sarah. Sarah first saw greys in 1986 lying in her beach hut in Negril, Jamaica, sick wither a collapsed lung and fever. The greys arrived to help. According to Sara, the "Greys are supremely intelligent and give information to humans in all disciplines - science, medicine, arts etc. They are here to help, and in fact are the "godparents" to many planetary civilisations.

  • "The greys NEVER abduct people, or do experiments on them. "They have no need to as they know humanity inside out. Human spirits can, however, meet them on the astral plane and this might be mistaken for abduction."

  • The greys sustain themselves by ingesting a homeopathically refined liquid made from pure water and certain herbs. They drink this through their mouths and it is deposited in a reservoir which we would call a stomach. They have no other end to the digestive tract, no bowels, therefore excretion is impossible. They extract the "energy" from this liquid and use it up totally.

  • They use "energy" also to procreate. There is no sexual union as such (so
    presumably no sexual organs).

  • Any 3-4ft tall greys seen by othe people must be juveniles, as they are
    around 7ft tall when mature.

  • Greys can choose to be reincarnated as humans, whereupon they take very
cerebral jobs because they are so clever.

  • They live for 200-300 years, and just stop energising in order to die. This is to make way for the younger generation.

  • The greys come from the planet Sirius D, and Sirius A is their sun. There was no mention of Sirius B or C. One third of the planet surface is covered by fresh water, but no salty seas. The flora is green and lush, and the climate mild. No mention of fauna, or other humanoid species. There is no pollution and the inhabitants live in simple but sophisticated buildings, generally sort of "round".

  • On the home planet, the greys use "energised" vehicles which Sarah calls "flying caravans". She showed us a sketch she'd drawn of one of these, and it did look for all the world like a flying box with windows and door.

  • There are schools and recreational facilities. They're not much into sport but do enjoy swimming and boating. Mostly they prefer mental games like chess in order to relax. The family is everything, and the grays as a race are very gregarious and sociable, as evidenced by their partiality to communal jacuzzis. [Ed note: this is a little scary, knowing my love of hot tubs, and hot springs.]

  • They have a senate of fifty individuals, just as a guide, since no-one ever does anything wrong, and the senate retires every so often to allow the younger individuals some experience.

  • There is no illness or poverty or hardship.

  • John perceives that there are other alien races out there, but the greys have never told him this. To "tune in" he just relaxes.

  • The greys will not give any information about future developments because we need to find our own answers, but they can nudge us in the right direction from time to time.

  • The greys do not have a concept of God. They are completely self-sufficient and at one with the universe, so have no need of such ideas.

  • Telepathy, which is their preferred mode of contact, will become common amongst humans after our next developmental leap.

  • Darwin's theory of evolution is wrong. [ed note: !!!]

  • For distances of more than 300 million miles, the greys use an interstellar rocket. Sarah had a sketch of one, and it was blunt nosed, truncated and had three tail fins. It reminded me of Thunderbirds. It takes three months to get here from the home planet. They can, of course, just teleport if they wish, but as they're very "communal" they like to travel together in a physical way.

  • On shorter trips they use a conventional flying saucer, and Sarah showed us her sketch of this also. When in our atmosphere, the greys travel in a miniature version of the above saucer.

  • They never allow their craft to be seen, as they have very efficient cloaking technology. UFO sightings cannot be attributed to the greys, definitely.

  • There have never been any crashed saucers from their civilisation - they're far too smart for that.

  • They have no bases here on earth.

  • The long, hot summer was caused by the energy from their massed craft in our atmosphere.

  • To Dan Bright's (ufologyinuk) question about residual alien artifacts: the pyramids of Giza and meso-America are their legacy.

  • To Joe's (ufologyinuk) question about the Mars probes: no information on that, but will ask. They do know, however, that Mars once supported an intelligent civilisation.

  • To several questions about the mysterious "energy" the greys seem to use for everything, including their propulsion systems on their anachronistic rockets: "don't know".

  • There are male and female genders amongst the greys, but it's hard to tell the difference.

  • Anyone can in theory be able to see the greys, but only if you are imbued with truth, sincerity, love and lack of fear and ignorance.

  • All especially talented people (several historical luminaries were mentioned) are influenced by the greys, or are actually greys themselves in human disguise.

Poem: Are they on the way or is it "just my 'magination (once again)?"

From the rolling verdant hills of Karleekanosh
To the roiling oceans of Trunobulax,

We wait and watch the shifting skies
For the approach of our long-lost cousins,

Whirring in from far far away,
And wonder what they will bring—

A bag of goodies
To transcend life as we know it,

Or a Pandora's box
Of the unknown and unknowable,

Filled with plagues
And darkness?

The War of the Worlds appeared 69 years ago (includes link to download the show)

It was sixty-nine years ago tomorrow--on October 30, 1938--that Orson Welles caused a national panic with his broadcast of "War of the Worlds"--a tale of an ugly Martian invasion of Earth. Click here to download an MP3 of the entire hour broadcast. It's great radio, and truly horrifying. It is such great radio that it changed radio forever. I probably listen to the whole show several times a year.

Welles was 23 years old when his Mercury Theater company updated H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds for national broadcast. Welles had already been in radio for several years, in "The Shadow." Mercury Theatre had no idea of the uproar "War" would cause. They did not intend to create a panic.

Millions of Americans had their radios on--but they were listening to Edgar Bergen (Candice's dad) and his dummy Charlie McCarthy. When that show ended at 8:12, the masses tuned to Welles's drama. By then, the Martian invasion was well underway. An announcer reports that "Professor Farrell of the Mount Jenning Observatory" had detected explosions on the planet Mars. Dance music came back on, followed by another interruption in which listeners were informed that a large meteor had crashed into a farmer's field in Grovers Mills, New Jersey.

A reporter at the crash site describes a Martian emerging from a large metallic cylinder:

"Good heavens," he declared, "something's wriggling out of the shadow like a gray snake. Now here's another and another one and another one. They look like tentacles to me ... I can see the thing's body now. It's large, large as a bear. It glistens like wet leather. But that face, it ...it ... ladies and gentlemen, it's indescribable. I can hardly force myself to keep looking at it, it's so awful. The eyes are black and gleam like a serpent. The mouth is kind of V-shaped with saliva dripping from its rimless lips that seem to quiver and pulsate."

The Martians rode walking war machines and fired "heat-ray" weapons at the puny humans gathered around the crash site. They killed 7,000 National Guardsman, and after being attacked by artillery and bombers the Martians released a poisonous gas into the air. Soon "Martian cylinders" landed in Chicago and St. Louis.

Across the eastern seaboard, panic broke out, including massive traffic jams in New Jersey of people trying to escape the martians. When news of the real-life panic leaked into the CBS studio, Welles went on the air as himself to remind listeners that it was just fiction. There were government investigations but no one was ever reprimanded or arrested.

Orson Welles went on to make great movies, including Citizen Kane, surely one of the greatest American movies ever, A Touch of Evil, the Magnficent Ambersons, and a handful of other great movies.

Alien Lore No. 113: Why do cars in the vicinity of UFOs die?

Why do witness's vehicles inevitably die when they see an alien space craft?

Ufologists seem to agree (that doesn't happen often!) that these engine failures are the result of electromagnetic fields emitted by the spacecraft. Thomas M. Sipose, the L.A. Bureau Chief of "Weekly Universe" wrote:

"The functioning of starcraft ionic-microwave engines (aka antigravitation or electromagnetic engines) is accompanied by electromagnetic field phenomena, i.e. plasma, which can cause air mass movements."

According to Weekly Universe: "...When real true-life starships descend, says [ufologist] Voron, "ionic-microwave streams interact with the environment...Even more shockingly, starship electromagnetic fields can impact our environment in still other ways -- some of them potentially deadly! UFO sightings have been accompanied by dangerous engine failures in planes, boats, cars -- as well as failures in other mechanical, electronics, communication devices."
