Alien Lore No. 241 - UFO crash in Japan?

By Jack Brummet, Unexplained Phenomena Editor

photo purportedly released by the Japanese Navy

Several web sites and blogs, including In Other Newz, are posting articles on an alleged report on Nippon Television December 5th that “an Unidentified Flying Object, went down off the coast of Okinawa, an island at the southern tip of Japan. Several news crews, along with police and emergency vehicles, rushed to the scene just in time to see the UFO sink into the water, according to multiple sources.”

“We saw something like a small vessel with a dome slowly submerge into the water as we arrived at the scene,” said Okinawa Prefecture Police Chief Hideki Suzuki. “We clearly saw smoke rising from it as it went down. There was a tremendous amount of steam generated as it disappeared into the depths of the ocean. We anticipate investigating the vessel as soon as we get the equipment we need to raise it from the water.”

The reports also claim that a recovery mission is underway:  "The Japanese Navy has already cordoned off the immediate vicinity of the crash and is preparing to send divers into the water to get a glimpse of the vessel and take photos for salvaging purposes. No doubt, the Navy will be heavily involved in bringing the UFO up from the depths of the ocean."

A photograph "released by the Japanese navy" shows the vessel submerged underwater, with a possible power source still glowing brightly atop the aircraft’s dome..

Another web web site points out that the the photo looks suspiciously like this Google street view image of Jacksonville, Texas.  Does this image below confirm that this is just another hoax?

Alien Lore No. 231 - Senator Bobby Kennedy on aliens and UFOs

By Jack Brummet, Alien Lore Editor

A letter from Senator Robert Kennedy has just sold on eBay.  It was a typed letter, written to Anne Epple of NYC, on a question she asked about UFOs.  The September 10, 1966 letter sold for  $220.  The Epple letter is the second known letter written by Robert Kennedy on the UFOs/ETs.

Dear Mrs. Epple,
Thank you for your thoughtful letter on "unidentified flying objects".
Many reputable scientists also believe that there must be other beings in the universe. Dr. Harlow Shapley, for one, has stated that there is a high probability that there is other life in the universe. To believe that there is other life in the universe is not, however, to believe that "UFO's" are manned vehicles. One explanation of this phenomenon, in addition to those you mentioned, connects the lights that are seen with the gaseous tails of comets. A careful analysis of sighting to date has not given us any indication that "UFO's" are manned.
I appreciate hearing from you on this matter and look forward to hearing from you again.
Sincerely,
(Signature)
Robert F. Kennedy

The letter is similar to another letter written on May 9, 1968 from Senator Kennedy to Gray Barker. Barker was the publisher of Saucer News.  In the Gray letter, Kennedy writes about his interest in UFOs. He writes: “I am a card carrying member of the Amalgamated Flying Saucers Association. Therefore, like many other people in our country I am interested in the phenomenon of flying saucers.”

The excellent TV series Dark Skies (1996-97) had several plot points around the Kennedy brothers, and posited early in the series that JFK was killed because he became aware of a government cover-up of aliens and UFOs by the Majestic 12 organization.  In Dark Skies, Bobby Kennedy was a sworn enemy of Majestic 12 and believed people "deserve to know the truth."  In one episode Frank Bach, the head of Majestic, told the rogue agent John Loengard that "Bobby Kennedy will never become President."

Alien Lore No. 198 - Dark Skies released on DVD!

By Jack Brummet, Paranormal and Unexplained Phenomena Editor

One of my favorite television shows ever has finally been released on DVD, some sixteen years after it first aired.  Yeah, you could find boots, and I did, but they were rough (although far better than not seeing the show again).  But here it is at last.  It even includes some great "bonus material" (which I usually barely watch),  including audio commentaries, interviews, a behind-the-scenes documentary, network promos, and studio sizzle reels.

Right up there with The Sopranos, Hill Street Blues, Deadwood, and a very small handful of other TV shows...is Dark Skies.  Dark Skies  aired in 1996/7 and  detailed the Greylien "history" that has accumulated (like tartar) over the years. Unlike other shows, Dark Skies established an elaborate mythology and framework for the grey lore, built through research of the voluminous outpouring of writing and reporting on alien-related topics.

Bryce Zabel and Brent Friedman developed an amazing five year plan for the show, ranging from the early 60's to the millennium, all grounded in historical events. Each episode details the impact of The Hive on historical events. Harry Truman, The Beatles, Ed Sullivan, Jack Ruby, William Paley, Hubert Humphrey, JFK, Bobby Kennedy (in a recurring role), Timothy Leary, Jim Morrison, Jerry Rubin, Carl Sagan, and others all appear on the program. The "lookalike" actors are outrageously over the top and campy...which adds a note of bent humor to the proceedings. The Greys, it seems, are merely hosts for the real aliens, called the Hive. The Hive is far more dangerous and insidious than the Greys. The Greys, in fact, are a race not particularly warlike until they are taken over by The Hive.

"Dark Skies" was set in the '60s, and, as such, it has aged well.  It still looks like the 60's!  They actually took a lot of care in 1995 to recreate American streets of the 60's, and the locations, wardrobes and cars are all spot on.

The Hive, in the form of The Greys, has stealthily infested America, and the world. The awful truth is kept from the American people by Captain Frank Bach, the leader of a super-secret government organization called Majestic-12. John Loengard and Kim Sayers are on the run from the alien Hive and from the Government. Their travels lead them all around the country as they learn more about the massive infestation of The Hive, and Majestic's efforts to control it at any cost.

It's never clear in the show whether the cure is worse than the illness. Dark Skies seamlessly put together science fiction, UFOlogy, and past political events and social movements that took place during the 50's and 60's. Unlike the X Files, Dark Skies was a one trick pony--it was about aliens, and UFOs, and nothing else.

Just the titles of their one season tell you much:

The Awakening
Moving Targets
Mercury Rising
Dark Days Night
Dreamland
Inhuman Nature
Ancient Future
Hostile Convergence
We Shall Overcome
The Last Wave
The Enemy Within
The Warren Omission
White Rabbit
Shades of Gray
Burn, Baby, Burn
Both Sides Now
To Prey in Darkness
Strangers in the Night
Bloodlines

In a lot of ways, the story is better than ever.  It is, with all that has happened and become known in the last fifteen years[1], it is, perhaps,  more plausible than ever before. . .

[1] Several governments, including ours have admitted they did withhold information, generally when they they were stumped...to avoid panic.  France, Russia and other countries have begun in the last two years to release massive amounts of their once secret files on UFOs and aliens.

Alien Lore No. 176 -- More X Files from Europe

Thanks to a good friend of All This Is That, Dr. Stephen Clarke-Willson, for another great tip.

As you know from previous Alien Lore stories here, over the last year or so, Russia, France, and England have opened up and begun releasing their UFO/Grey/Alien files. Literally thousand of documents have already been released by these three countries, with many thousands more queued up for release as I type this.

The Brits just released their latest batch--including a letter saying that Winston Churchill ordered a 50 year cover-up of a wartime encounter between a UFO and military pilot.

The files, published by England's National Archives, "span decades and contain scores of witness accounts, sketches and classified briefing notes documenting mysterious sightings across the country," according to Reuters.

An unidentified letter writer in 1999 says that a Royal Air Force plane returning from a mission in Europe during World War Two was "approached by a metallic UFO." The author says his grandfather attended a wartime meeting between Churchill and Dwight Eisenhower during which the two expressed concern over the incident and "decided to keep it secret." The Ministry of Defence was unable to find any primary source materials regarding this claim: and , in addition, "... the MoD does not have any expertise or role in respect of 'UFO/flying saucer' matters or to the question of the existence or otherwise of extraterrestrial lifeforms, about which it remains totally open-minded."

An earlier release--an ATIT Alien Lore post,--details a 1995 sighting. A plane approaching Manchester airport experienced a near-collision with an "unidentified object," in which a witness claimed he saw a UFO "20 times the size of a football field." (Just about Independence Day-sized). An investigation failed to turn up anything.

"Prior to the demise of the Former Soviet Union, aircraft were scrambled some 200 times annually to intercept and investigate uncorrelated tracks penetrating the UK Air defence region (AKADR) from the north..." it said. The last scramble was in September 1991 -- just about the time the Soviet Union imploded.

Alien Lore No.152 - Astronaut Edgar Mitchell speaks up once again

Edgar Mitchell - "Cosmic Activist"

Once again, former Astronaut Edgar Mitchell this week reaffirmed his longstanding claim that there "is no doubt we are being visited."

Mitchell, who few on the 1971 Apollo 14 moon mission, said early this week that extraterrestrial life exists, and the truth is being concealed by the U.S. and foreign governments.
Mitchell spoke at the National Press Club following the X-Conference, a meeting of UFO activists and researchers studying the possibility of alien life forms.

Mankind wonders if we're "alone in the universe. [But] only in our period do we really have evidence. No, we're not alone," Mitchell said.

"Our destiny, in my opinion, and we might as well get started with it, is [to] become a part of the planetary community. ... We should be ready to reach out beyond our planet and beyond our solar system to find out what is really going on out there."
Mitchell, believe it or not, grew up in Roswell, New Mexico, which many UFO believers say is the site of a UFO crash (and along with the Mount Rainier sightings around the same time are the events that really triggered this while alien lore story. Mitchell says that people in his hometown "had been hushed and told not to talk about their experience by military authorities."

The resident of Roswell, Mitchell says, "didn't want to go to the grave with their story. They wanted to tell somebody reliable. And being a local boy and having been to the moon, they considered me reliable enough to whisper in my ear their particular story."

Ten years ago, an admiral working for the Joint Chiefs of Staff promised to uncover the truth behind the Roswell story, Mitchell said. The stories of a UFO crash "were confirmed," but the admiral was then denied access when he "tried to get into the inner workings of that process." The admiral now denies the story.

"Those who are doubtful: Read the books, read the lore, start to understand what has really been going on. Because there really is no doubt we are being visited," he said. "The universe that we live in is much more wondrous, exciting, complex and far-reaching than we were ever able to know up to this point in time."

A NASA spokesman, Michael Cabbage, denied the cover-up. "NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover-up about alien life on this planet or anywhere else -- period."

"There is a third rail [in American politics, and that is the UFO question. It is many magnitudes more radioactive than Social Security ever dreamed to be," said Paradigm Research Group head Stepgen Basset.

Dark Skies/Alien Lore motherlode

Right up there with The Sopranos, Hill Street Blues, Deadwood, and a handful of other shoes...is Dark Skies. In 1996-97, Dark Skies, one of my all-time favorite television shows, aired. Unlike the X Files, Dark Skies was a one trick pony--it was about aliens, and UFOs, and nothing else. They cancelled the show just as it was getting traction. You can get a bootleg copy of the series. I did just that, and I enjoyed the show even more the second time around. By the way, Sony--it's time to release the DVDs!
