President George Bush speech "Islam is Love," September 17, 2001

“Thank you all very much for your hospitality. We’ve just had a ― wide-ranging discussions on the matter at hand. Like the good folks standing with me, the American people were appalled and outraged at last Tuesday’s attacks. And so were Muslims all across the world. Both Americans and Muslim friends and citizens, tax-paying citizens, and Muslims in nations were just appalled and could not believe what we saw on our TV screens.
These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith. And it’s important for my fellow Americans to understand that.
The English translation is not as eloquent as the original Arabic, but let me quote from the Koran, itself: In the long run, evil in the extreme will be the end of those who do evil. For that they rejected the signs of Allah and held them up to ridicule.
The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That’s not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace. These terrorists don’t represent peace. They represent evil and war.
When we think of Islam we think of a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world. Billions of people find comfort and solace and peace. And that’s made brothers and sisters out of every race ― out of every race.
America counts millions of Muslims amongst our citizens, and Muslims make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country. Muslims are doctors, lawyers, law professors, members of the military, entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, moms and dads. And they need to be treated with respect. In our anger and emotion, our fellow Americans must treat each other with respect.
Women who cover their heads in this country must feel comfortable going outside their homes. Moms who wear cover must be not intimidated in America. That’s not the America I know. That’s not the America I value.
I’ve been told that some fear to leave; some don’t want to go shopping for their families; some don’t want to go about their ordinary daily routines because, by wearing cover, they’re afraid they’ll be intimidated. That should not and that will not stand in America.
Those who feel like they can intimidate our fellow citizens to take out their anger don’t represent the best of America, they represent the worst of humankind, and they should be ashamed of that kind of behavior.
This is a great country. It’s a great country because we share the same values of respect and dignity and human worth. And it is my honor to be meeting with leaders who feel just the same way I do. They’re outraged, they’re sad. They love America just as much as I do.
I want to thank you all for giving me a chance to come by. And may God bless us all.”

Fab new paintings by former President George W. Bush (with a link to his older ones)

By Jack Brummet, painting ed.

We wrote about Ex-President George W. Bush's painting last year.  Since then, he has produced a whole bunch of new canvases -- portraits of world leaders he knew and met with during his eight year occupation of the White House

Our article on President Bush's earlier paintings:

Karl Rove's dirty trick on John McCain

By Pablo Fanque, national affairs ed.

I recently revised and reprinted an article on Dick Tuck, the master of dirty tricks.  In the course of writing that, I ran into some other famous dirty tricks.  One of the most famous occurred in LBJ's early days on the campaign trail.

In one of his early congressional campaigns, Lyndon B. Johnson told one of his aides to spread the story that Johnson's opponent f****d pigs. The aide responded "Christ, Lyndon, we can't call the guy a pigf***er. It isn't true." To which LBJ replied "Of course it ain't true, but I want to make the son-of-a-bitch deny it."

A fairly recent dirty trick that never got the attention it deserved is Karl V. Rove’s onslaught against Senator John McCain, who was running for President in the primaries against his boss, George W. Bush.  In 2000, John McCain won the New Hampshire primary and polls showed him ahead in South Carolina. McCain was on the verge of halting Bush's march to the White House and would likely become the nominee.

Rove chose one of the oldest weapons in the book of dirty tricks—the whisper campaign (see sidebar above).  A whisper campaign is spreading malicious and/or embarrassing rumors about your opponent, while making sure the rumors aren't actually traceable back to your campaign.

Two weeks before the election, pamphlets began appearing under windshields at candidate debates with a picture of McCain and his adopted Bangladeshi daughter.  The pamphlets alleged that McCain had an illegitimate African-American daughter.  This charge would cost him votes in a state that had never fully embraced desegregation.

Shortly after the pamphlet bombardment, anonymous pollsters began calling local Republicans to ask if they would be more or less likely to vote for McCain if he were mentally unstable because of his imprisonment as a POW in Vietnam.

McCain was so pissed off about the attacks that he confronted President Bush in person to demand that he stop; when Bush denied responsibility, McCain replied, “Don’t give me that s**t!” By Election Day, McCain's lead had vaporized and Bush won by 11 points.

With no realistic way now to nail down the nomination, McCain dropped out.  He never forgave Bush for the attacks on his family and wartime heroics.  He got his shot eventually, and went on with his VP nominee Sara Palin to get whipped by BHO.

Presidents with Presidents.

By Pablo Fanque, National Affairs Ed.
& Mona Goldwater, Global News Ed.

ATIT loves The Presidents; some, sure, more than others. We like the photos, and particularly multi-Presidents shots. Here are some good shots of three Presidents, three first ladies, and one likely/potential new Prez at the Nelson Mandela funeral in South Africa. We also include the now notorious image of President Obama taking an iPhone selfie with the Prime Ministers of Denmark and England. . .

These images come from White House photographer Pete Souza.

Jack told us today that "the further George Bush recedes in the mirror" the more he likes him. He has written a couple of controversial posts about he affection for the retired President, with people sniping about him slipping into a hexegenerian, right bent/redneck space. He said "who cares about the politics? He had me once all the paintings came out. I love this guy!"

"I've written him twice now, offering to sponsor a gallery show, do an interview strictly focused on his art, and display better, high def photographs of his work rather than the fuzzy ones we all published (because there was nothing else). It was like....Dude....you gotta get this stuff out there. People want to see it. Maybe buy it. Let me know. Mr. President. And give my love to your dad and mom."

Jack is a sick biscuit, but these photos (maybe not the editorial comment) are worth seeing. Especially Dubyah showing pictures of his paintings to Hillary and Michelle.

The following two images are from http://instagram.com/georgewbush (George W. Bush's Instagram site):

ATIT Reheated (from 2005) George W. Bush's scandalous speech in Israel

By Pablo Fanque, Foreign Relations Ed.

[Listening to President Obama's "historic" speech in Israel today, which has received much acclaim  we remember back to a far less well-received speech by his predecessor]

Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.), has joined the flood of Democratic complaints about President Bush’s speech in Israel:

“This is bullshit, this is malarkey. This is outrageous, for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, to sit in the Knesset ... and make this kind of ridiculous statement.”— Senator Joseph Biden, chairman of the Senate foreign relations committee
Speaking at the Knesset, The President said “some people” believe the United States “should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along."

"We have heard this foolish delusion before," Bush said. "As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is — the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

Barack Obama joined in, accusing President Bush of "a false political attack" Thursday after Bush warned against appeasing terrorists.

Speaker of the House Pelosi tore into the President, saying Thursday that Bush's remarks were "beneath the dignity of the office of the president and unworthy of our representation" at the celebration of Israel's 60th anniversary.

Even Senator Hillary Clinton took the time to lambaste POTUS: "President Bush’s comparison of any Democrat to Nazi appeasers is both offensive and outrageous on the face of it, especially in light of his failures in foreign policy. This is the kind of statement that has no place in any presidential address and certainly to use an important moment like the 60th anniversary celebration of Israel to make a political point seems terribly misplaced. Unfortunately, this is what we’ve come to expect from President Bush."

The paintings of Ex-President George W. Bush

By Jack Brummet, Painting and Drawings Editor

The artist at work [Guccifer is the hacker who stole these photos]

A hacker recently broke into some of the Bush family's email accounts.  From GWB's sisters account, comes images of paintings that Dubyah has created...  A report from The Smoking Gun is here.

For my part, the best revelations were of George W. Bush, the artist--one shows him naked in the shower, the other of his legs and feet in a bath, with the tap running. The Smoking Gun said that Dubyyah  sent them to his sister, Dorothy Bush Koch.  There was also a photograph showing him at his easel working.

ATIT Reheated (from five years ago today): Kucinich questions Pres. Bush's mental health (and admits he's "seen a flying saucer")

Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich questioned President Bush's mental health yesterday because of comments he made about a nuclear Iran causing World War III.

"...we have to start asking questions about his mental health," Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, said in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer's editorial board on Tuesday. "There's something wrong. He does not seem to understand his words have real impact."

Later that night, during the Democratic Presidential debate, Representative Kucinich admitted he had seen a UFO (see yesterday's All This Is That).
